My husband (who usually prefers traditional names) has thrown a curveball into the mix....

Woody

He LOVES this name. What are your honest opinions please?? At first I thought no way but I'm growing to like it. Personally I do prefer more unusual names and popularity definitely puts me off a name.

It's received positive reactions in real life but obviously that might just be people being polite! Thanks Smile

I don't like it, sorry. It sounds a bit daft to be honest.

Justalittlebitblondie · 28/04/2018 11:08

No - but could have Edward and woody as nickname...

Evangelinedream · 28/04/2018 11:09

I don’t think it’s too bad for a nickname...could you name him Woodrow (like the prime minister)? Woody for short?

Evangelinedream · 28/04/2018 11:10

Oh x post...Edward is a great suggestion

stellinaa · 28/04/2018 11:11

I like out of the ordinary names as much as the next person but not a fan, sorry. Woody Allen comes straight to mind and thats not a good association.. I just couldn't do it

Velvetbee · 28/04/2018 11:12

No.

puffermunkin · 28/04/2018 11:13

Woody woodpecker Wink

KirstenRaymonde · 28/04/2018 11:14

I think it’s fine as a nickname but I think it needs to be attached to a full name

PatrickMerricksGoshawk · 28/04/2018 11:18

Cowboy or erection. Sorry.

Babbaganoush · 28/04/2018 11:24

Fair enough!! Thanks everyone...I thought that might be the general consensus.

I can't use Edward as that's the name of an ex and it's just too weird for me.

The erection thing doesn't bother me personally as I have never ever heard it actually referred to as that...perhaps a generational/regional thing!?

Difficult because my OH rarely comes up with suggestions and I want to love it as much as he does but my gut instinct is saying no.

LoveInTokyo · 28/04/2018 12:00

Awful.

Makes me think of erections too.

DryHeave · 28/04/2018 12:01

Dog name

RavenWings · 28/04/2018 12:14

Immediately started singing You've got a friend in me to myself.

Further thoughts are dogs or woodpeckers. Sorry, OP.

Moominfan · 28/04/2018 12:17

I love it

HappyLollipop · 28/04/2018 12:19

Hate it, it's more of a nn rather than an 'actual' name to me.

tinykirst · 28/04/2018 12:24

I think its a cute name!
As long as it goes with your last name. My OH surname has wood in it and he gets called woody more than his actual name!
If you both like it then I see nothing wrong with it 😊 it's nice to have a name that's not the same as everyone else!

glitterbiscuits · 28/04/2018 12:27

No.

Although Woody Harrelson is lovely.

Pompom42 · 28/04/2018 12:35

I like it, it's a fun name and if he has the personality to match even more fun!
It's different but not too 'out there'

MrsDilber · 28/04/2018 12:38

Think of your son in an office at 45, Woody be pissed off that you'd given him this name??

Not keen, Edward's a good compromise though.

soundsystem · 28/04/2018 12:42

Elwood? With Woody as a nickname?

JazzyJelly · 28/04/2018 12:43

Like from toy story?

Petalflowers · 28/04/2018 12:43

I immediately thought of Zoe Ball who named their son Woody (and also erection link).

BonnieF · 28/04/2018 12:48

To infinity.......and beyond!!

n0ne · 28/04/2018 13:03

As a nickname for Woodrow, absolutely

Dreamingofkfc · 28/04/2018 13:16

Love it, Elwood or Woodrow are great names that could be Woody
