Boys' names with an Irish Flavour

Hi All,

We need a boys name to go with our daughters name. She is called Neave. Something with a nod to my Irish heritage would be nice but not essential.

We like Finn but it clashes with our surname (Gillon). Names than finish in N, and/or have lots of L in them sound funny with our surname.

We'd like something a bit different but not weird.

We'd like to use Charles as a middle name.

Love my daughter's name so much. Really struggling with a boys name!

Conor is a lovely irish name

We were also going down the Irish heritage route and decided on Ruairi.

I think it goes quite well with your middle and surname too :)

I've always loved the name Malachy for a boy

At school there was a Finbar and Seamus

Maybe call him something that's spelled correctly but still pronounceable for non-Irish speakers. Spellings like Neave or Efa boil my blood tbh. Either call them an Irish name or don't - there's no real middle ground here IMO.

Micheal pronounced Me-haul

Padraic or Padraig can be pronounced Pawd-rick or Paw-rick

Conor is Irish

Ryan goes best with Gillon

I love Tadhg. Also like Fiachra, Dara, Liam, Conor, Seán, Eion, Niall, Ruairí, Ciarán (although that finishes in an N).

But yes please either spell it properly or don't use an Irish name.

I've seen a few posts on various sites saying that Conor is a name associated with naughty boys in the UK. However in Ireland it's a very nice traditional boy's name.

Yes it is, but OP has evidently decided to change the spelling to make it easier for non Irish speakers to pronounce

Tiarnan (pronounced Teer-nan)

Is Tiarnan meant to have a fada? Tiarnán or Tiarnan? I've see it both ways and prefer the pronunciation without the fada but not sure which is "official".
