DS1 due in June - still undecided on a name! Charlie James is first choice, but how about Alfie or Arthur?

My DS1 will be born at 38 weeks on 7th June (at the moment!) via c-section, although it could be earier depending on my gestational diabetes...

I'm nearly 32 weeks and am finding it harder and harder to think of boys' names that both me and my DH agree on.

We both still quite like Charlie James, but can't decide if we really really love it, and DH has come up with alternatives like Arthur and Alfie, although my MIL says annoyingly that as there is a cousin in the family with the name Alfie James, we can't use this (a load of old rubbish IMO). Hmm

Anyone have any other suggestions or preferences? I think Charlie James is still my favourite but I don't mind Alfie as an alternative... I just can't think of any other names that are really 'doing' it for me... Confused

Charlie James is the nicest.

I don't mind Arthur, but I would be wary of the fact that the odds are on the new royal baby being named Arthur (of course, you'll know this within a matter of days!) and if he is, it'll take the same leap in popularity that George and Charlotte have.

I'm not a fan of Alfie.

I prefer Charlie to Alfie.

I do really like Arthur though.......

Great names op! Enjoy choosing.

Bear in mind that whatever name this princeling is given will be very popular.

If you like Charlie, I'd give him the full name Charles. It gives your ds more options later in life.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 24/04/2018 09:26

Charlie is much nicer than Alfie.

James is extremely popular as a middle name. Would you consider it as a first name? James Arthur?

I'm not a huge fan of the -ie endings, they just sound a bit cheeky chappie and naff.

Alfie is incredibly overused and totally meh.

Charlie is a bit better but not brilliant.

Arthur is good but yes royal baby.

If you do go for the 'ee' cutesty ending, give it a bit more of an interesting spin:

Roddy
Barney
Sonny

I like Alfie best.

Not a huge fan of Charlie. I much prefer Harley for some reason.

Other suggestions: -

Ferdinand nn Ferdie
Rory
Archer
Troy
Andrew / Drew / Andy
Joseph
Joel

Happy choosing, op!

Charlie is a great name. I like Charlie James - it sounds friendly.

I don’t like Alfie, it’s not a grown-up’s name, and Alf is just a rubbish alternative.

NooNooHead1981 · 25/04/2018 13:45

Thank you all... I do think that I prefer Charlie to Alfie, and I agree that Charles is a better name for him a he grows up. I wouldn't like to think of him being a CEO of a company and being called Charlie! Grin

I actually really like Theodore (as a completely different alternative!) but not sure my DH is as keen, and it would be a bit funny having to say his nickname 'Theo' with my DD's nickname of 'Chlo'!

Any thoughts on this?! Hmm

I prefer Charles “Charlie” to Theodore.

My little boy (7 months) is Charlie James- I think it’s a winner! Smile
