Can I ask what you think of Douglas? My DH and I both like it, mainly because of it's connection to my family but I'm not sure if it's a bit too old fashioned? Really struggling with finding boys names we both like!

I really like Douglas! It was one of the names in the running for our little boy. It is a bit old fashioned, but in a good way (I think!).

HeyDolly · 23/04/2018 17:25

I like it. Plus I quite like Dougie as a nn.

Padfootprongs · 23/04/2018 17:35

I have a nephew Douglas, who goes by Dougie. Think it's a great name! Go for it

LoveInTokyo · 23/04/2018 17:43

A few years ago I would have said it was dated but actually I think it’s coming back again now like a lot of slightly old fashioned names. I like it. Sweet for a little boy and perfectly sensible for a grown man.

Dogsrbarking · 23/04/2018 17:43

I think it's fabulous. Dougie is adorable for a small child and Doug is fine for an adult. One on my list

TatianaLarina · 23/04/2018 17:48

Oh no. Much prefer Dougray.

lornathewizzard · 23/04/2018 17:52

I also prefer Dougray. Dougie is nice too

Moominfan · 23/04/2018 17:59

Lovely name

loladisco · 23/04/2018 18:28

Thanks for your replies, I am encouraged that no one has gone 'Absolutely no way!' I've never heard of Dougray before, although my other name I like is Ray so an interesting idea to have a name that combines my two favourites.

I can't really imagine a baby Douglas, but I suppose that's the point of nicknames - he can be Doug or Dougie at school and Douglas if he wants when embarking on a seious career (or when he's been naughty and you want to tell him off!).

TatianaLarina · 23/04/2018 18:32

My ‘Oh no’ was ‘no way’. Grin

Shireslass · 23/04/2018 18:33

Oh yes! Great name and on my def list if I had a boy.

PinkCalluna · 23/04/2018 18:34

I’m Scottish so I know lots of Douglases of all ages.

Small Douglases tend to be called Dougie (pronounced Doogy) here.

It’s a great name.

rebeccabecca · 23/04/2018 18:35

I can't bear it, I've known 2 and I couldn't stand either of them.

BornInALighthouse · 23/04/2018 18:40

It was top if I'd had a boy. It's lovely.

Sophronia · 23/04/2018 18:44

I like Douglas. Not keen on Dougray.

chezmk1988 · 23/04/2018 18:49

I don't like it sorry

3rdrockfromthesun · 23/04/2018 18:53

My brother is called Douglas and has only just started going by Doug.

Pompom42 · 23/04/2018 18:55

Yep nothing wrong with it at all. Better than all the common names

TheFace · 23/04/2018 21:01

I like it. Not very common (where I am in England anyway) and Dougie is a great nickname. It's a perfectly acceptable name.

AlbertaSimmons · 23/04/2018 21:05

I know a baby Douglas. Parents don't allow any derivatives or diminutives, just Douglas. It's a very grown up name for a very small boy, but you're naming an adult not a baby. Go for it if you like it.

BringMeCoffeePlease · 23/04/2018 21:07

I was going to say ‘no way’. Douglas is just so clunky and frumpy.

But...Dougie! I love Dougie.

RavenWings · 23/04/2018 21:11

I can't imagine Douglas on anyone under 50, personally. I don't dislike it, it's just a bit of a Derek esque name to me.

Having said that, it's a million times better than the toddler names like Alfie, Charlie etc. You're naming an adult.

StarlaMack · 23/04/2018 21:24

I'm sorry but I just don't like the sound of 'Doug', all the things it rhymes with are ugly sounding, pug, lug, slug, mug, bug, plug....
