Circe?

I've heard SEER-see, SIR-key, and KEER-kee.

I would've gone with Sir-say
Thing with this name, is if you're asking how people will pronounce it, then the kid is going to have to spend their whole like telling people how their name is pronounced. Do you really want to do that to a person?
If it's a pets name, then go for it.

Greenyogagirl · 23/04/2018 01:41

Sir say.

Greenyogagirl · 23/04/2018 01:41

Cersei is game of thrones I thought?

Dvg · 23/04/2018 01:42

Sirsee

Time40 · 23/04/2018 01:43

Ser-see. But do you really want to call your child after an enchantress who lured men to their doom?

OlennasWimple · 23/04/2018 13:45

Yes, Cersei is the Game of Thrones spelling. But it's like Jaime for Jamie / Kevan for Kevin / Joffrey for Jeoffrey - GRR Martin changes the spellings slightly to make it other worldly but still familiar

abiirthdaycake · 23/04/2018 13:51

Kir-Kee is the original pronunciation but Sir-see is more common nowadays. Also wouldn't recommend it for a human child

steppemum · 23/04/2018 13:57

No idea, it is not an easy one to pronounce, and for that reason I wouldn't use it.

TatianaLarina · 23/04/2018 15:44

Hmm Circe was a very powerful goddess of magic/sorcery, DD of Helios. The later development into a ‘witch’ like Morgan le Fay I think is just misogyny. This happened to many female godesses.

The narrative of turning men into swine in the Odyssey may be a degradation of shamanistic myth whereby men and women turn into animals - cf Diana turning Actaeon into a stag.

BitOutOfPractice · 23/04/2018 15:45

Sir-see, I think, but I would hesitate to be honest!
