So I would like to honour my uncle who raised me who is named Simon however I don’t feel like I can actually call him Simon (if that makes sense?) I have thought of Simeon but was wondering if there are any more names out there that people feel are similar? TIA

Why not just use Simon as a middle name?

Bumpitup286 · 22/04/2018 12:26

All my husbands family have the same middle name so we want to keep that tradition but may use Simon as a second middle name but it doesn’t feel as special to me placed there

Simon is a lovely name and well overdue coming back onto fashion.
Simeon is also good.

MarthasGinYard · 22/04/2018 12:35

I think finding alternatives is a bit strange

Surely it's either Simon or not Simon

Sorry I don't get this at all! Why would you not want to actually call him Simon? Because your uncle is still around? I understand that, in which case second middle name is a great option - the point is, it's in the name. It could also be the first middle name, you could interpret your husband's tradition as being 'X name is always used' (which personally I think is plenty enough of a nod to a tradition that isn't yours, you need to make your own traditions too) OR you could interpret it as 'x name from husband's side is always used as the name before the surname').

Personally I think naming after a person that actually raised one of the parents trumps the position of a name that's the family one that's been used on umpteen people that side of the family.

So I would have X Simon Tradname Surname.

My dd feels extra-special as she has 2 middle names!

Kate123cl · 22/04/2018 13:26

Simone?

Surely it's either Simon or not Simon

That's what I thought. If you want to honour your uncle it would be odd to use a name that isn't Simon.

IVflytrap · 22/04/2018 14:12

Symond? It's pronounced Simmond. Really common variant of Simon a few centuries ago.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 22/04/2018 14:23

Hebrew would be Shimon/Shimeon but that does lead me down the Samson, Samuel, Saul sort of path. Or what about the other disciples?

MinaPaws · 22/04/2018 14:24

What's wrong with Simon? Lovely name.

Simeon
Silas
Shimon
Symond

TinoTheArtisticMouse · 22/04/2018 14:45

How about your uncle's middle name instead?

BringMeCoffeePlease · 22/04/2018 17:01

I agree either use Simon or don’t. Don’t try and come up with something that sounds similar.

Can you use your uncle’s middle name as the first or middle name?

thegreylady · 22/04/2018 17:34

Paul

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 22/04/2018 17:35

How about Damon ?

RoundaboutSnail · 22/04/2018 18:22

Peter, because Simon in the Bible name-changed to Peter?

PugwallsSummer · 22/04/2018 18:34

There is a little boy called Simon in DD's class. He is adorable. Use Simon.
