Dodgy initials?

DS2 due in June. Surname begins with a T.

We are pretty much set on Sebastian for a first name, and love Henry as a middle name.

Can we use it, making the initials SHT?

I don't see a problem, but DH is dubious. Am I letting him in for a lifetime of bullying?

How many y children actually know their classmates' middle names?

heateallthebuns · 19/04/2018 17:59

I wouldn't worry too much about that. It's not going to crop up very often.

pilotswife · 19/04/2018 18:02

Don’t do it ! Add another initial or swap Henry around and still call him Sabastian

RoundaboutSnail · 19/04/2018 18:34

HST = High Speed Train, but that's better than SHT.

brainepson · 19/04/2018 18:36

Goodness, don't do it! People will snigger at meetings for ever more (as minutes often use initials although usually just 2 so SH)

Fwend · 19/04/2018 18:38

DH won't use Henry first. And we love Sebastian!

Might be back to the drawing board on that one.

Anything similar you'd suggest?

Can't use William or George (and am definitely in no way royal!).

Just to put a spanner in the works but my first three children (four different schools) have all had their initials used on their computer ID followed by the first three letters of their surname. Which, abbreviated like that is a piece of lingerie BlushCompounded by the fa t that it is displayed on the smartboard for the whole class to snigger at Confused

myhousesmellsofIKEA · 19/04/2018 19:04

Could you swap the first and middle names round on the birth certificate only, but still call him Sebastian? I had a friend at school who’s initials would have been GAS, but his parents swapped his first and middle names round, so he became AGS on his bc. They still called him G though.

RoundaboutSnail · 19/04/2018 19:06

I'd avoid D as middle initial too. SDT is too similar to STD.

Frederick
Gregory
Joseph
Theodore
Leonard
Luke

Lawrence

Swapping a 'formal' name (passport, Doctors etc ) and a 'used' name can be a pain in the proverbial over a lifetime.

MollyHuaCha · 19/04/2018 19:23

Add another middle name.

E.g. Sebastian John Henry T...

SJHT

Fwend · 19/04/2018 19:27

I'd totally swap them, but DH won't do it.

I like Luke and Joseph though - I'll see what DH thinks!

Thank you!

(Glad I asked now, as I was adamant I was right and it was no issue. Grin)

How about not providing school etc with his middle name and so it won’t be on anything. That’s what happened to me.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 19/04/2018 19:34

Agree, I wouldn't risk SHT.

Other names
Lucas
Adrian
Damian

Babynonamee · 19/04/2018 19:35

We named my son WTH (not on purpose I must add)

(What The Hell- he was supposed to be a girl)

bettyboo40 · 19/04/2018 19:41

I had embarrassing initials before I got married, and I was teased a lot at school. It almost put me off being a teacher, because teacher's initials are often used.

MikeUniformMike · 19/04/2018 20:55

Initials are used quite a lot. Don't use a middle name as the known as name - it's a PITA.
Why not add another name.
Sebastian Henry Ian or Andrew perhaps.

Fwend · 19/04/2018 21:09

Mike Grin

DH likes Luke probably because of Star Wars, but I'll take that.

Luke is great and nicer than Seb IMO. I don't get the lurve for the name - it just makes me think of s. coe.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 19/04/2018 22:02

Sebastian Luca T.

bridgetreilly · 19/04/2018 22:07

I would add another name.

Sebastian Luke Henry T...
Sebastian William Henry T...

BringMeCoffeePlease · 19/04/2018 22:11

Don't do SHT.
