If you have an Arthur

DP and I can only agree on Arthur for this baby if it’s a boy.

I love the name but some people have been shortening it to Arty which I really don’t like (apologies to those who do like it or have a DC named Arty)

So if you have an Arthur does his name get shortened to Arty?

My Arthur doesn’t really get shortened apart from my sister sometimes, I also sometimes call him farty Artie! But he’s only 19mo so more people may try it in future, I’m not that keen on it but love Arthur itself.

Jemimapuddleduk · 18/04/2018 21:11

No just Arthur, no shortening.

Mum2jenny · 18/04/2018 21:12

Don't mind Art, but not Arty

Mrsknackered · 18/04/2018 21:16

DS (5 years) has an Arthur who is always Arty in his class

gigi556 · 18/04/2018 21:18

I have an Arthur. He's only a baby but no shortening so far. My father is an Arthur and he goes by Art and Artie (although I know he doesn't actually like Artie!). I have a long name and didn't get any shortening or nickname until I was in my teens. I don't think it's inevitable.

mamaduckbone · 18/04/2018 21:22

There is a 6-year-old Arthur in my school who is never shortened. Arty has the same number of syllables so not really a shortening - it wouldn’t have occurred to me to use it.

Lovewinemorethanhusband · 18/04/2018 21:35

My Arthur is 5 and will not have his name shortened at all , if people try he corrects them and advises his name is Arthur not Arty ! I get away with arty fartie pants every now and again but that's it. All forms for when he went to nursery and school said his preferred name was Arthur and I did correct a nursery assistant when she called him Arty when he had just started and he's done the same since as well

MonkeyPoke · 19/04/2018 00:08

I'm grandpa was Arf.

Fakingit36 · 19/04/2018 11:24

Our Arthur is 5 as well and he’s just Arthur -no problems so far. We have a one syllable last name so I think Art would sound too shost, and I don’t much like Artie.

sidonie1 · 20/04/2018 14:20

Never gets shortened. I also dislike abbreviations. We call him Bear as a nn as that is one of the meanings.

PinkFlamingo888 · 20/04/2018 18:28

I don’t have an Arthur but would use the name myself and am hoping to push the nickname Thor! Not sure it’ll be successful but otherwise I’d just stick to Arthur!

Dollius01 · 20/04/2018 18:33

I have an 11-year-old Arthur who chose to be called Arty at the age of 8. I think it's quite cute really...

mondler · 20/04/2018 22:24

I know one that is 5 and never has it shortened. His granddad always says how's Arthur cucumber or you doing ok Arthur pound of sugar but he seems to like that.

BringMeCoffeePlease · 20/04/2018 22:42

I imagine that only adults would shorten Arthur to Arty. I suppose Arty sounds more cutesy.

artmo · 21/04/2018 23:09

I have an Arthur who is 5. He is mostly Arthur and never Arty. Sometimes we call him Arts or Art though. I'm biased but I think it's such a great name!

tinytoucan · 21/04/2018 23:25

I know a 5 year old Arthur. When he was tiny his parents said he wouldn’t be called Arty... but now they call him it. His dad calls him Thor sometimes too.

WalkThePlanky · 22/04/2018 17:37

I call mine Arfie or Bear. Everyone else calls him Arthur or Arfa. It’s a great name.
