After an opinion. DH has Polish family and we were looking at Polish names. We have got down to the possibility of 2 and wondered what ‘public opinion’ would be.

So hit us- thoughts on Zosia or Joasia. Honest opinions appreciated 😊

Oh, and I taught a Kasia. It was her full name. She was from Montenegro I think.

Zosia is lovely.

I know a Kasia. Full given name. She was in the queue next to me at enrol at university and we both had our birth certificates in hand. It’s comparable to using Kate, Cathy, or Katie as a given name.

Honeysuckle- perhaps in Serbo-Croatian it is a full name. Not in Polish.

It doesn't really matter, though, as long as she won't live in Poland- you really really wouldn't introduce yourself in a formal or professional setting as a Joasia or Kasia but it's fine in the UK I guess.

If you register your daugher as Joanna (for Joasia) then she may be called Jo od Joanna.
Zofia is the full name for Zosia, in fact my friend named her dauther Sophie and is calling her Sofijka.

I like Zosia too.
Have you considered names like Kaja or Ela?

Buxbaum- not if she was born in Poland, it's against the law ( and so impossible) to register your child under a diminutive.

Buxbaum · 13/04/2018 14:15

Born in UK to Polish parents, winnybella. I think increasingly common in the Polish diaspora.

I see, buxbaum- perhaps it's going the way of Sasha, Natasha etc. Easier to pronounce than Katarzyna.
