Hi all. Struggling to decide on DD name. Second child, sister to Charlie. Any thoughts on the following? Surname 2 syllables starting with K. Thanks! 😊

Ruby
Amelie (nickname Millie) or just Milly/Millie
Isabella (too common?)
Lily
Maisie

From your list, Isabella or Lily. Although, I think Ruby goes better with CharlieHmm

Myview2 · 12/04/2018 22:54

My vote is for Amelie. It goes nicely with Charlie. I know a few people with the other names on your list and whilst they are nice I get the impression you don’t want a name that is too common?

Beeziekn33ze · 12/04/2018 22:58

Amélie or Lily

ReversingSnail · 13/04/2018 00:49

Maisie or Lily.

DramaAlpaca · 13/04/2018 00:51

Ruby, Lily or Isabella. All lovely.

Amelie is only nice in a French accent IMO, and Maisie is very cutesy & twee.

ChocolateCrunch · 13/04/2018 06:36

Amelie or Lily

Ruby

Love Maisie and Ruby, alongside Charlie.

Amelie (nickname Millie) or just Milly/Millie
Isabella (too common?)
Lily
Maisie

Amélie - I think this sounds a bit pretentious if you are not French and it seems a little pointless if you are going to shorten it to Milly anyway. Prefer Amelia if you are English.

Isabella - like it.

Lily - like it.

Maisie - I feel this is a little girl’s name which doesn’t work so well on an adult.

As a general point, if you want something that isn’t too common then I’m not sure any of these names will tick that box. Amélie, Isabella and Lily (or variants thereof) are probably about as popular as Sarah, Claire and Rachel were in the 80s. That’s absolutely no reason not to use them, but if you want something less common then maybe think again.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 13/04/2018 09:48

Ruby, Amelie, Lilly and Isabella are all very common round here. Not that that's a reason not to use them if that's what you want. But if you want something a bit more unusual I'd go with Millie, also Charlie and Millie sound lovely together.

LoveInTokyo · 13/04/2018 09:56

I think Millie is just as popular as the others, but if I’m honest I can’t see why. It’s a bit blah. And I definitely wouldn’t use it as a full name because if your daughter is a tomboy or grows up to be a CEO or an astronaut or prime minister she’s stuck with a twee little girl name.

chezmk1988 · 13/04/2018 11:12

Amelie or Isabella but all are overused at the moment.

Aprilmightbemynewname · 13/04/2018 11:13

My dd is Ruby Amelia!!

bumblenbean · 13/04/2018 17:29

Thanks all! I knew a consensus was unlikely! Grin

April - how old is your DD and do you know many other Ruby’s her age? X

Those names are really common at my kids school... I can't think of which one I prefer without picturing hoards of little girls (around 7-10)

daisypond · 13/04/2018 17:40

Ruby would be my choice. I do like Isabella and Lily, but they're very popular these days. I also know some 20-something Lilys, some of whom are changing their name, because it lacks gravitas, they think - just something to think about. Amelie is horrid, sorry - unless you're French. I'd assume parents were over-influenced by a cutesy film back in the day.

MikeUniformMike · 13/04/2018 18:33

Ruby.
Isabella - not keen on Izzy or Bella.
Lily -lovely but I don't like Lil.
Amelie - looks nice but don't like it in an English accent. Amelia is nicer. Milly is ok.
Maisie - cute but a bit twee.
