Hello
What do people think of names with first initial ? We have one child already a boy. Don't know what having but if a girl our preferred name is similar to our DS' name, same first 3 letters.

First initial (and syllable) of my two are the same happy with our choice Grin

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 07/04/2018 22:41

I wouldn’t. My name and DS’ both start with the same initial and I never realise I’m opening his post until I’ve done it. Ok, he’s 3 so I would be opening his post anyway, but it’s still an added complication!

Same first three letters might be a bit samey (if that makes any sense at all!)

Besides the post issue, (though it might be a little better to have Miss and Mr rather than two girls or two boys with the same initial), I think it sounds good having siblings with the same initial. I know a Lucas and Layla and like the way they sound together. (Mine are all different but that's just how it worked out!)

If another boy would be different initial.

My sister has the same initial as me. I don't recommend it. First three letters the same would be even more confusing. What if they ended up being known by the same short form among their friends? Both 'Sam', for example.

Synecdoche · 07/04/2018 22:58

My sister and I have the same first initial. To be honest I have never even thought about it. Sure, letters addressed to 'Miss S Necdoche' are the same but it's never really been a big deal.

Same initial no problem. Same first three letters might seem a bit matchy-matchy.

DramaAlpaca · 07/04/2018 23:25

SIL did this with her two. It's a bit matchy OK but the names are nice together.

I know a Elijah and Ella.

An Isaac and an Isabel

A Lucia and Luca

Scottishgirl85 · 08/04/2018 08:47

Can you tell us the names?

GaraMedouar · 08/04/2018 08:49

Matthew and Matilda? Both might be shortened to Mat. I always found it strange that Arnie Schwarzenegger has a child called Christopher and a child called Christina. I’d shorten both to Chris.

Alastair
Alana

Lovely names with Scottish connections. I don't think the first three letters is an issue at all

My brother and I have the same initials, always hated it. As in our first initial, middle initial and surname.

Oddly my H has exactly the same intials as his brother, and other than their first names being different but beginning with the same intials, their middle names are exactly the same, after their father and grandfather. That caused a lot of problems when they were living in the same house.

Having a child now, if I ever have another I will be deliberately avoiding them having the same intials. It's just a bit much and samey for the kids, we honestly felt like our parents couldn't be bothered to think of different names.

Not sure but can't think of other names we like.
