Dulcie/Dolcie/Dulcinea/Dulcinia?

What do you think about them? And which version do you prefer?

According to the nameberry website, Dulcie is a shortening of the Italian name Dulcibella. Maybe it’s an old English name too though, I have no idea. But if you like it OP and don’t mind about the pronounciation thing then go with your instincts, doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks..

Dulcinea

I love that name ever since I first read Don Quixote. And if you're into musicals there's a beautiful song to go with it from Man of La Mancha.

Meh to the concerns about pronunciation, it's a Spanish name and people will learn how to say it properly in the same way a Chinese or Senegalese person learns to say John. Don't go with the same English sounds because furrin names are 'weird'.

Dulcie/Dolcie/Dulcinea/Dulcinia?

Dulciniaiest!

They’re a big too sugary sweet for me.

MammieBear · 04/04/2018 13:25

Dulcie is a lovely name and meaning, stick with that one.

HoratioNightboy · 04/04/2018 14:41

Kintan, it's of Latin origin and has been used all over Europe. Its use dates back to the 13th century in England, and was quite popular in mediaeval times in various forms:

Doucebelle (dulcis 'sweet' + beautiful):

Douce Doue Dousabel Dousable Douset Dousin
Douze Dowsabel Dowse Dowzable Duce Dulcia
Dulcibella Dulcie Dulcinea Duleia Dusa Dussabel
Dussabele Duszabell Duua Duva Duze

I'm strangely drawn to Dussabel...

I love Dulcie.

thegreylady · 04/04/2018 22:28

I think Dulcie is lovely and I like the meaning. I like Sadie and Sukey too.

bettybyebye · 04/04/2018 22:39

Makes me think of Dulcinea del Toboso from Don Quijote...

Harebellmeadow · 05/04/2018 07:04

I like Dulcinea best, Dulcie for short. It is the classic and original form and I think it sounds very feminine and lovely. Dulcinea was the most beautiful creature in the world.
Hmm very shocked by all the posters who have never heard the name - it’s from the standard literature canon and everyone must at least have heard of the character?

BertrandRussell · 05/04/2018 07:09

Why would an adult woman want robbed called ""Sweetie"?

Dancingmonkey87 · 05/04/2018 07:14

Don’t like any of them

Glug44 · 05/04/2018 07:18

Depends on the area you’re in. Where I grew up the names would be ruined as people can’t pronounce soft c’s. So it would be Dool-ki or Dolly for short.

PastaOfMuppets · 05/04/2018 07:33

OP, if you like it, use it. Why ask for opinions? Most PPs have said they don't like any of these name ideas but you still do so just use what you like

whoareyoukidding · 05/04/2018 07:44

I like Dulcie

Fifthtimelucky · 05/04/2018 08:01

I like Dulcie, but would avoid the others. It's much nicer, in my view, than lots of other old fashioned names that have made a comeback.

Grandadwasthatyou · 05/04/2018 08:15

All are awful. Sorry.

Strugglingtodomybest · 05/04/2018 08:17

I love Dulce.

PretzelVanderspling · 05/04/2018 08:25

Dulcie is a fantastic name

RedDwarves · 05/04/2018 10:55

My grandmother is a Dulcie. She's always openly detested it.

She gets called "Dulce" by her friends, but strangers rarely pronounce it correctly. She gets everything from "dul-chee" to "dul-key".

So, I don't like it, and I think Dulcinia/Dulcinea are simply making an already pretty dire name worse.
