Aurora and Theodore as siblings?

I feel like they are a little -or- heavy together Sad

They are a bit, but would Theodore be full name all the time or Theo? If shortened then I think it would be fine.

fearfultrill · 03/04/2018 11:36

I think they would be okay together. Although I find Aurora hard to say - would there be a nickname?

ApocalypseNowt · 03/04/2018 11:39

I like the names but wouldn't put them together because they have too many of the same sounds (say them out loud together!).

I know that wouldn't bother some people though!

jess91 · 03/04/2018 11:40

Thinking about it, we'd most probably shorten it to Theo while he's younger.

I'm not a fan of matchy names and it took me a while to realise it, even when saying them out loud. Just wanted to see if it was obvious and I was just being a bit slow.

Personally wouldn't pair these, too different. Even shortened to Theo they are very odd together.

sycamore54321 · 03/04/2018 11:52

It's very similar to my ears, and quite a mouthful together. Are they the only two children? It's not so bad if there's a clutch of sibling s in between called Jane and Claire and Edward but with just the two names, I personally wouldn't.

jess91 · 03/04/2018 11:53

@stellinaa Too different? Lol. My concern is that they're too similar sounding. I don't care for themes in names so "too different" doesn't bother me.

OP posts:
stellinaa · 03/04/2018 12:01

Just my opinion, they sound very odd together.

zeebeedee · 03/04/2018 12:04

Aurora and Theodore are a bit 'or' sounding, but Rory and Theo are great together!

Remember you'll be saying the names together for 18 ish years, then they have potentially 70 - 80 years where they'll be living separate, adult lives.

jess91 · 03/04/2018 12:06

@stellinaa Thanks but it doesn't really help with the question I asked.

OP posts:
stellinaa · 03/04/2018 12:22

Yes there is a heavy 'or' sound in both names which makes them sound funny when said together (as someone else already had commented on), quite obvious. But my point was that imo the names don't sound good together anyway, responding directly to you asking about using the names for siblings..

Why even try to help these days? Hmm Grin

Thistlebelle · 03/04/2018 12:23

Stand at the back foot and try telling them a few times. See if it’s easy or too much of a mouthful.

It might depend on your accent.

Thistlebelle · 03/04/2018 12:23

Not back foot autocorrect! Back door!

MammieBear · 03/04/2018 12:57

They're fine together, if they're the names you love go with them.

jess91 · 03/04/2018 13:09

@sycamore54321 It's hypothetical at the moment as we currently have two daughters so there would be at least one name in between them. Theodore has always been our boy name and what either girl would have been called if they were boys. I only noticed the similarities when someone suggested Thea as a sibling name for Aurora on here as I'd use it as a nickname for Theodora.

@ThistleBelle Maybe it is an accent thing as I've never had a problem saying Aurora although I've noticed many people say they do online. I don't have any issues when saying them together but I can see the similarities with Aurora's middle syllable and Theodore's last.

Sounds fine to me

Lobsterquadrille2 · 03/04/2018 22:48

Lovely names. I'd definitely go for it - I know two Theodores and both are Theo. I would never shorten Aurora.

jess91 · 04/04/2018 19:22

@Lobsterquadrille2 Thanks! We sometimes shorten it to Rora. I understand it's a hard name for some to say which is why we shorten it. I think we'd mostly use Theo for Theodore but I wouldn't want to just use Theo officially. I love Theodore and it's meaning but I appreciate that it's a longer name and quite formal sounding for a child.

ReversingSnail · 04/04/2018 20:40

I think it's fine to have both. The "or" is stressed in Aur-OR-a but not in THE-o-dore.

TatianaLarina · 04/04/2018 21:02

It’s fine OP, I’ve heard so much worse on here. Once it’s Theo and Aurora all will be well. At least it’s not Jaxon and Lexi-Mae!

jess91 · 04/04/2018 21:06

@ReversingSnail Yeah, I don't struggle when saying them out loud. It was when Theodora was suggested on another thread that I noticed it. It seems a lot of people think they're too similar though lol.
