Lawrence or Arthur

Hi, we have named our ds2 Lawrence Arthur which I really am happy with, but am unsure whether to have him known as Lawrence or Arthur. We’ve been calling him Lawrence but can’t shorten to Lawrie as we already have a ds1 named Ollie. Which name do you think is the nicer or the two: Lawrence or Arthur. He is 7 weeks old at the moment so still time to change. Just really hope he doesn’t get shortened to Loz at school! Really want him to have a name he will love

I really like Arthur. I like Lawrence too. I agree that Laurie and Ollie are too similar. However Arthur and Ollie are pretty similar too, so I don't think using Arthur will help too much.

Much prefer Lawrence.

Arthur is sooo much better!

Lawrence. Really not keen on Arthur!

Toadsrevisited · 07/04/2018 07:24

Larry?

MrsZippyLake · 07/04/2018 07:28

Lawrence. I think Lawrie and Ollie are fine together. I think Lawrie is nicer than any of the other nicknames that have been mentioned.

Lawrence, you can use Lance as a nickname...

Askyourself · 07/04/2018 08:37

Arthur by a long way.

Depending on surname you could use both allowing you and him to choose which as he grows?

Arthur Lawrence ...........

Lawrence Arthur ...........

Just a thought

Lawrence - I'm biased Wink but it's a fab name. We often use Ren or Renzo as a nn for DS!

Arthur is a good name but much more popular.

Rory really isn't a nickname for Lawrence. Why do you need to have a nickname, Lawrence is only two syllables, same as Ollie

Scottishgirl85 · 08/04/2018 08:53

I love the name Rory though, Rory Arthur is lovely

Mamabear4180 · 08/04/2018 21:58

Lawrence by a mile. I love the name Laurence/lawrence but really dislike Arthur personally. You can have Ollie and Laurie, why not!

17caterpillars1mouse · 09/04/2018 09:22

Lawrence nn Rory is lovely. I don't think nns have to be completely obvious to all, plenty have completely unrelated nns. Congratulations on your little boy

Thanks for all your great input! We decided on Lawrence in the end. My mother in law said do it change it to Arthur and that’s when I realised I couldn’t give up Lawrence as over the last 9 weeks he’s become my little Lawrence. I do love the name Arthur and maybe he can use Arthur if he prefers when he’s older. I think those who said Rory wasn’t a natural nickname are right. People would wonder who the heck I was referring to if I said Rory. It’s a shame as I love the name Rory, so might use it as a personal nickname for him and if it catches on then that’s fine. Wren / Ren is a lovely nickname if we find we want a nickname for others to use and makes much more sense.
You’re right Scottishgirl, Lawrence doesn’t need shortening with it being just 2 syllables, though everyone asks what will we shorten it to strangely! Thanks everyone! :)
