We have chose Clara for a girl but we would like to double barrel it, I know double barreling is not to everyones taste but we like it and feel it would go better with our last name that begins with a C and ends in R, we love Clara so that is 100% our choice but we are not sure what flows better with the name Clara, we would love some opinions on which is better please.

Clara-Rose
Or
Clara-Sofia

Thank you in advance Smile

A lot of people dislike hyphenated first names. Do you want your child to have a name that many people will dislike?
When names are hyphenated, usually only the first of the two gets used.
Clara Rose is much nicer than Clara-Rose, and Clara Sofia is nicer than Clara Rose, which IMO has too many Rs.
Clarissa is nice.
Double-barrelling or joining two names tend to make both names less pretty.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 30/03/2018 13:01

Too many R's in Clara Rose for me.

Clara-Joy
Clara-Jane
Clara-Beatrice

Thank you for your opinion. DH doesn't like Clarrisa but i love it. We were also not sure about the hyphen, you are right, i think we will drop the hypen but we do like the name double barreled.

There's nothing to stop you calling her Clara Rose or Clara Sofia when she is a baby. If you want to use a hyphen, then you can. It is ok in other countries, like France, Sweden and so on. It's just considered a bit naff in the UK.
Anne-Marie and Marie-Claire seem ok.

userabcname · 30/03/2018 13:46

I prefer Clara Rose.

EasterRobin · 30/03/2018 13:55

Of the two, I like Clara-Rose the best.

ErrantBakedBean · 30/03/2018 14:13

I prefer Clara Rose of the two. I have a soft spot for Jean as a second name and think Clara Jean would help the double barrelling regain a bit of cool somehow. Like Norma Jean or Billie Jean.

Clarabumps · 30/03/2018 14:17

Clara Rose is lovely.

harrietm87 · 30/03/2018 15:07

Like them both in theory but Clara Rose doesn't flow so well to me as you have to restart the R - ra-ro sounds a little clunky. Clara Sofia flows better but is quite a mouthful.

Love the Clara Jane and Clara Jean suggestions. Think a single syllable second name would work best.

Footle · 30/03/2018 15:26

Clarissa is the proper spelling btw.

Whereismyspottybag · 30/03/2018 16:08

I know a Clara Rose. When I heard her name I just though Clara is nice but Rose is so blah now. For that reason I would chose Clara Sofia

BunnyEars1 · 30/03/2018 16:15

Clara-Ann
Clara- Louise
Clara- Faye
Clara- Beth
Clara- Kate
Clara- Nicole
Clara- Sue

Im guessing you might be a Connor???

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 30/03/2018 16:18

What about Clara-Beth? Or Clarabeth.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/03/2018 17:46

I agree that Clara Rose has too many Rs.
I like Clara Sophia. Also like pps suggestion of Clara-Beth
Other Ideas.
Clara Mai
Clara Jess
Clara Jane
Clara Daisy
Clara Faith
Clara Maude
Clara Jasmine
Clara Lily
Clara Grace
Clara Evangeline

kimberoo · 30/03/2018 17:52

Thank you for all the suggestions and opinions, I like Clara Kate and Clara Daisy, very pretty.

Clara Rose is better than Clara Sofia, which is too much of a mouthful, though I do see what people mean by the "r" sounds in both Clara and Rose. Don't hyphenate them. Clara Belle? I'm not sure about that either.

Sophronia · 30/03/2018 20:01

Clara June
Clara Blythe
Clara Maeve
Clara Eve
Clara Faye
Clara Grace
Clara Joy
Clara Pearl

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 30/03/2018 21:26

Clara-Eloise.

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 30/03/2018 21:31

Really, don't hyphenate. Not sure what your name is, obv, but Clara Carter/Clara Connor/Clara Chester sound fine IMO.

Please not Clara Belle - isn't Clarabel one of the cringily-depicted token-female-passive-twittering coaches in Thomas the Tank Engine?

Buntysoven · 30/03/2018 23:50

If your last name IS Connor, please be mindful that there's a Carla Connor in Corrie which is very close. If however it's something like Carter, crack on!

TatianaLarina · 31/03/2018 08:25

Clara Rose - the repeated R makes it very clunky.

Clara Sofia is lovely and runs much better.

katand2kits · 31/03/2018 10:21

Why not just have the two names without the hyphen? Invariably, the child ends up going by just the first name and it is a pain in the rear when they grow up if their legal name is a hyphenated one that they don't use. Pick a lovely middle name, and call her by both names of you want to. Rose is very very common as a hyphenated name at the moment. Sofia is more unusual.

IVflytrap · 31/03/2018 11:19

Clarabel. As in "Annie and Clarabel".

Clara Sofia is better than Clara Rose. Fewer repeating R sounds.
