Would people make this connection?

Or surname is the same as a famous actor. Well known enough that people have often make that connection and even asked if we are related, its not an english surname so not very common here.
The first name we are considering if we have a boy is the first name of the charcter this actor is most well known for playing.

So imagine Jennifer Anniston playing Rachel from friends and then we wanted to name our dd Rachel Anniston, though the actor and the show isnt quite as big.

Would people make that connection and would that put you off the name?

I would imagine so, yes. If the actor is very famous. Does it really matter if you love the name?

SubtitlesOn · 28/03/2018 15:02

Is it a timeless show?

Sort of like friends or coronation street or Eastenders or ER

Or is it more like Doctor Foster?

I mean that won't be remembered in 5 years to time?

upsideup · 28/03/2018 15:07

Its an american 80's/90's show that they did a netflix sequal for a few years ago which I dont think was hugely popular actually.
I dont really know how big it is across the UK as we are probably are more aware of it because of our surname and I'm not sure it will be that relevent in few decades time.
Its more similar to friends than it is to doctor fostor definately though.

I think they could do,it depends how prominent the person is,your dc may get really fed up being teased or asked about it or even people wrongly assuming the name was chosen purposely to link her with said person.also depends on what the character gets up to on screenSmile?
BUT if you really love it OP......

Ds has a name that is a surname of a pop star. No issue to me if it's mentioned. Go for the name you love.

NoodlesLivesHere · 28/03/2018 15:17

My mother and I still chuckle whenever James Hook plays for Wales and we say "Captain". We don't know him personally so no idea if he gets ribbed about it IRL or if he cares

I wouldn't match up with a recognisable first and last name combination for a celebrity personally especially with an unusual surname personally but I also refused alliteration for my children's names because I think it's a bit too "pay attention to how witty I am" so I may be too judgemental on names.

NoodlesLivesHere · 28/03/2018 15:18

Just in case anyone's baffled by the "Captain" remark. It's the name of the pirate from Peter Pan.

Dogsrbarking · 28/03/2018 15:21

Are you planning on calling your child The Terminator Schwarzenegger?? Grin

I think it entirely depends on the name and character he played. Fwiw I didn't use a first name I liked as it is extremely similar to a famous actress when combined with dp's surname.

DairyisClosed · 28/03/2018 15:24

I doubt it. I don't think that I can actually name any 80s TV shows from America

Cockmagic · 28/03/2018 15:27

You could actually tell us the name?

Impossible to say without

upsideup · 28/03/2018 15:29

Actor John Stamos who plays Jesse in Full House
Is he/the show that big in the UK?

OP posts:
RestingBitchFaced · 28/03/2018 15:31

Never heard of him

threatlevelmidnight · 28/03/2018 15:32

V unlikely anyone would make that link. I'd use the name - Full House isn't well known in the UK at all.

DiegoMadonna · 28/03/2018 15:32

I know the name of the show but never watched it. Never heard of the actor or his character. I'm early 30s.

I think it's fine.

Feezles · 28/03/2018 15:33

No one in the UK would make that connection, I don't think.

MammaH2018 · 28/03/2018 15:33

John Stamos played Tony Gates in ER - more likely known for this in the UK than for being in Full House

I don’t think anyone will make the connection

Stop worrying!

DaisyChainsForever · 28/03/2018 15:34

I've never heard of the show or the actor. I'm mid 30's.

Dontbuymesocks · 28/03/2018 15:35

I’d make the link but I don’t think it’s a problem. It’s a nice name!

BluthsFrozenBananas · 28/03/2018 15:35

Full House was, as far as I know, never shown in the UK at the time of making. My DD and nieces have seen it because of Netflix but I doubt they’d be able to actually name the cast members.

upsideup · 28/03/2018 15:35

Okay thanks, thats good then.
I did think it was possible that we were much more aware of the actor and the show because of of DH's surname and a few people making the link and that they both were not actually that well know across the Uk as a whole.

strawberrypenguin · 28/03/2018 15:36

Never heard of him! I wouldn't worry about it I don't think many will make the connection

TenThousandSpoons · 28/03/2018 15:38

Is it Sherlock Cumberbatch? If so I think yes, people will make the connection. Grin

Luckingfovely · 28/03/2018 15:39

You're fine, go fine for it!

TenThousandSpoons · 28/03/2018 15:39

Sorry didn’t read full thread. I’ve enjoyed House in the past but wouldn’t remember that name or put the two together.

Isadora2007 · 28/03/2018 15:42

Hardly anyone would make that connection. I was a big ER fan and don’t even recognise either him nor his characters name.
Definitely go for it.
