What are your thoughts on Oswald. Too out there for old-man chic?

I wouldn't particularly associate the name Oswald with Mosely, mainly because he had an unusual enough surname and that's what he is usually associated with. Lee Harvey Oswald is usually known by his full name so again I don't think I'd make that jump. However some might make one or both association so if that bothers the OP she should bear it in mind.

We recently played a game where one of the main characters is called Oswald (it's based on Germanic myths) so that's my current association. He was a cool character but personally I think Oswald is a better name for a pet than a child, just feels a bit comedy to me (although I'd say the same for a number of other old man/lady names suggested recently like Enid or Agnes).

Ozzie is cool though :)

MikeUniformMike · 25/03/2018 18:33

Oswald Moseley
Lee Harvey Oswald.

How about Arnold instead?

expatmigrant · 25/03/2018 18:48

No can only think of Oswald Mosely

Goosegrass · 25/03/2018 18:57

Moseley for me too.

soundsystem · 25/03/2018 18:59

Yep, Moseley for me to too, and I’m relatively young!

Ginnotginger · 25/03/2018 19:01

I immediately thought of Moseley, my dd thought of Goneril's manservant in King Lear. Not good associations, sorry.

LegArmpits · 25/03/2018 19:05

I call my Oscar Oswald as a nickname...

Sophronia · 25/03/2018 19:09

How about Oswin? Then there’s no Moseley connection.

kaytee87 · 25/03/2018 19:11

Bad association and a bit of an ugly name imo

Goosegrass · 25/03/2018 19:14

Osrich?

NewIdeasToday · 25/03/2018 19:19

Nearly as bad as Adolf in terms of fascist undertones.

Find a nicer name please for the sake of your son.

badg3r · 25/03/2018 19:28

I think it is an ugly sounding name and immediately think Moseley. Sorry! I would be a bit Hmm at a baby with the name.

AverageSnowflake · 25/03/2018 19:39

Sorry but it's hideous. Don't saddle a child with that name.

CircleofWillis · 25/03/2018 21:46

Mosley! Please don’t do it to him.

buttercup54321 · 25/03/2018 22:20

Vile

toffee1000 · 26/03/2018 21:25

No. Aside from the Mosely connection it sounds rather posh/upper class to me. Ozzie is OK, but not Oswald.

neomamma · 26/03/2018 21:55

Pretty much no-one in Italy has named their baby Benito since 1943...even now it would be a bit of a showstopper to call a baby Benito. It would be seen as a bit of a political statement by a lot of people. Names like Italia (another name fashionable in the fascist era) have not yet come back into fashion...
