Double Barrelled Middle Names

Hi lovelies,

We are due a baby girl the start of July. We have our girls first name chosen and are onto discussing middle names!

Hubby would like his nans middle name as our baby girls middle name therefore I feel it only fair to have my nans middle name too :)

How does Prudence-Ann sound as a middle name?

xx

They go well together, sounds lovely. However I personally wouldn't double barrel the names - can't see the point if it's a middle name imo.

IVflytrap · 23/03/2018 13:36

I agree with bea179 - they sound great, but you don't need to hyphenate them. Plenty of people have two middle names. "Prudence Ann" is fine.

Aprilmightmemynewname · 23/03/2018 13:38

My dd has 2 middle names. Check initials don't spell out anything!

DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2018 15:51

I wouldn't bother double barrelling them, there's no point really. Just have them as two separate middle names.

Belindabauer · 23/03/2018 16:00

I agree with what's been said. Don't double barrell.

ReversingSnail · 23/03/2018 19:13

Just have two middle names without the hyphen.

Glumglowworm · 23/03/2018 20:13

They sound fine together but I would lose the hyphen and just have 2 middle names

Topseyt · 23/03/2018 20:52

They are nice, but I agree that there is no need to hyphenate them.

bridgetreilly · 24/03/2018 00:19

Presumably you both have two grandmothers. Won't the others feel left out if you only use those names?

By which I mean, there's nothing 'fair' or 'unfair' about how children are named. You pick the names you like and use those.

Buxbaum · 24/03/2018 04:50

Agree with PP - lovely choices but just give her two middle names. Hyphenating then is a bit pointless.

clairehr · 24/03/2018 07:55

No need to hyphenate.

First names are hyphenated so that the second 'barrel' doesn't get dropped.

Middle names don't need that security :)

BarryChuckle · 24/03/2018 07:57

DD has both our grandmothers names as middle names without a hyphen.

n0ne · 24/03/2018 08:01

Agree with all PPs - both our DCs have two middle names after all their GPs

howthelightgetsin · 24/03/2018 10:38

Why hypehenate? Just Prudence Ann is fine.

RosaBaby2 · 24/03/2018 11:15

I agree that 2 middle names is fine but no need to hyphenate. I think they sound nice together.

MikeUniformMike · 24/03/2018 12:17

Fine, but no hyphen please. In this case it is pointless. I would probably just use Prudence.

KirstenRaymonde · 24/03/2018 12:19

I have both my grandmothers names as middle names, they’re both unusual and I love having them. But they’re not double barrelled, it’s just one name and then the other. No need for a hyphen.

sycamore54321 · 25/03/2018 22:39

Is there any chance you'd like more children later on? If so, I would leave it at just one. It might be the tone not coming across well but it sounds a bit petty to only choose your own grandparent's name because your husband has proposed his side.

(For what it's worth, I think Ann Prudence works better)

aurora2018 · 25/03/2018 23:25

If we have a girl, her middle name will be Jacqui-Lyn OH Mum was Jacqueline and my Nan who brought me up was Linda (Lyn) so it works for it to be hyphenated x

MikeUniformMike · 26/03/2018 13:09

How about Jacquilinda?

aurora2018 · 26/03/2018 22:33

@MikeUniformMike I don't like that sorry

GoldenHefalump · 27/03/2018 12:06

If we have a girl, her middle name will be Jacqui-Lyn OH Mum was Jacqueline and my Nan who brought me up was Linda (Lyn) so it works for it to be hyphenated

Now I would make the middle name 'Jacquelin' in that case - Jacque and Lin together. It sounds a lot nicer than a double barrel IMO and it is closer to Linda as it's Lin not Lyn.

MikeUniformMike · 27/03/2018 20:42

Jacquelin is nice.

MikeUniformMike · 27/03/2018 20:59

Or Jaclin. I'd go for Jaclyn. It's kind of 70s retro and pretty. Do a search online for Jaclyn Smith. Beautiful.

aurora2018 · 28/03/2018 06:05

Sorry guys we are set on Jacqui-Lyn
