We are of Arabic origin and like the name Haitham ( pronounced Haytham) which means young eagle in Arabic. However does it sound ok in English?

It's a boys name usually.

I like it.

Joeybee · 21/03/2018 23:24

It's nice, it's pronounced how it's spelt which is good. It's similar sounding to Nathan and Hiram which are fairly commonly used names. I like it.

ChocolateCrunch · 22/03/2018 00:27

I like it, easy to pronounce.

DuggeeHugs · 22/03/2018 07:41

It sounds nice, although in our neck of the woods it'd likely be pronounced High-tham on first attempt.

bridgetreilly · 22/03/2018 07:59

I think it's okay, though I first thought it would be pronounced Hate 'Em, which is not a great association.

MammieBear · 22/03/2018 08:00

Nice meaning to it.

chezmk1988 · 22/03/2018 08:06

I would read that as 'hate them'. I don't think it works well in English.

ElizaDontlittle · 22/03/2018 08:06

I think it sounds fine in English. You can always correct any that misprounce as High-tham which I agree there will be some. Lovely meaning.

starfleet · 22/03/2018 09:32

I know a little boy with the name. His parents spelt it Haytham.

EleanorXx · 22/03/2018 14:58

Not my style, but an inoffensive, easily pronouncable name

Dontrocktheboat · 22/03/2018 20:50

I worked with someone called Haitham once. I think
It's nice, a good, strong name.

LoveInTokyo · 23/03/2018 00:11

I saw the thread title and thought, “er, what?!” and I also read it in my head with a hard T like ”hay-tum”.

But actually, saying it the way it’s supposed to be pronounced, I rather like it. And if you are of Arabic origin it’s easy to explain. It would be weirder if you had no Arabic roots but had just picked the name because you heard it and liked it.

I say yes to Haitham. Smile

BlueJayTO · 23/03/2018 01:06

A friend’s husband has the same name but it’s spelled Hytham

Scottishgirl85 · 23/03/2018 19:26

I know a few due to working with international colleagues. Everyone pronounces it and spells it correctly.

kaytee87 · 25/03/2018 19:09

I would pronounce it correctly.
Nice meaning and completely inoffensive name.

soundsystem · 25/03/2018 19:13

I like it. I haven’t come across it before, but pronounced it correctly on first attempt should should be no worries from the perspective (as parent to a child with a more unusual name, it is nice when people get how to say it!)

DramaAlpaca · 25/03/2018 19:14

Nice name

tierraJ · 25/03/2018 19:17

The lead singer of the 90s band Sensor was called Haitham - personally I like it

grasspigeons · 25/03/2018 19:22

I know a Haitham of Iraqi origin

no one ever got his name wrong or noticed it as standing out. Its really easy to spell and say and sounds nice

everythingatonce · 29/03/2018 16:54

I read it the way you say it's pronounced (with a southern accent). Maybe it depends on where you live and what the accent is in your area as to whether it works in English.
