Pregnant with DD2. i saw the name Mallory on a site and knew straight away that was the name i wanted. DH agreed, the only issue is mine and his family's don't agree!

I know it's our choice but it still hurts that they don't like the name we've chosen and i don't want to have to listen to snidey comments about it forever! do you guys think that it's a name someone would get teased for having/thought of as a snob for having?

I adore Mallory. Liked it for ages.

But it means bad luck, apparently.

Thelampshadelady · 19/03/2018 14:25

I like it. I went to school with a Mallory.
Ignore your family.

halfwitpicker · 19/03/2018 14:26

It's not American - not that that is a bad thing, anyway

TatianaLarina · 19/03/2018 14:36

I don’t mean the name itself is American - but the use of surnames as first names is an American practice that has caught on here, unfortunately.

Lovely name. They'll forget they ever objected once they love the baby. Not up to them anyway. It's a lovely name, can't see a single reason to object to it that's not daft.

AnyaMoondial · 19/03/2018 15:04

It's a good name op.

madeyemoodysmum · 19/03/2018 15:05

I like it. Spd the family. It's not there child.

Proudmummy2MA · 19/03/2018 16:08

I haven't heard the name Mallory before, but I like it, and think the nn Mallie is very pretty!

Everyone loves to have an opinion, especially family. Doesn't mean you have to listen to them! If you and your partner like the name, that's all that matters :-)

Coyoacan · 19/03/2018 18:46

I didn't like my dgd's name, but now that I know her and love her I can't imagine her with any other name.

MaMisled · 19/03/2018 18:58

I think it's a fantastic name and wish I'd thought of it!

cheshiremama89 · 19/03/2018 19:06

It reminds me of a duck

Norma sure why?

cheshiremama89 · 19/03/2018 19:06

Mallard!

pepperpop · 19/03/2018 19:09

I've never heard of it before but I think it's lovely!! Stick to your guns Smile

Greenyogagirl · 19/03/2018 19:10

Nobody liked my sons name but they got used to it Smile

MadMaryBoddington · 19/03/2018 21:35

Not keen personally; same school of name as Mackenzie and Madison. I was watching an American sitcom last night which has a Mallory in it, funnily enough.

RockafellerSkank · 19/03/2018 23:15

LOVE it and always have, ever since Family Ties.
No idea about Mallory Towers.

Do it! It's really pretty AND strong.

FizzyGreenWater · 20/03/2018 17:03

It's lovely.

None of their business.

A few well chosen comments?

'I'm really sad you're not going to end up being so close to the baby as you would have been because of her name! We would have loved for you all to have a close relationship but no way are we going to allow her around people who are going to sneer at her name, it would be so bad for her...'
