Hector?

We already have an Arthur and are expecting DS 2. Only name we really both like is Hector. Are they too similar? Is Hector getting more popular?

Also loved Jasper but awful with our surname. Maybe Ernest?

DH likes Victor, Walter, Hugo.
I like Humphrey, Stanley.

Help!

No but it was the point of yours Hmm

TatianaLarina · 18/03/2018 10:01

Nope, when I said ‘the’ post I was referring to ‘my’ post.

Heratnumber7 · 18/03/2018 10:05

Do you remember "Hector's House"?

pigeondujour · 18/03/2018 10:07

Ignore the naysayers it's a brilliant name, so is Arthur and they go great together!

mistermagpie · 18/03/2018 10:09

I really like Hector and considered it for DS2 (he ended up Hamish) but we are in Scotland and it's maybe more of a traditional name here. A lot of people go on about Hector as a verb but I don't think it matters. Stanley is brilliant though, I'd have that with Arthur.

mydogisthebest · 18/03/2018 10:12

I immediately think "Hector's House". My second thought is the two dogs I know named Hector

ladymelbourne1926 · 18/03/2018 10:13

Hector prince of Troy - I like it.

Sophronia · 18/03/2018 10:15

I really like it, I prefer Hector to Hugo

ChocolateCrunch · 18/03/2018 10:18

Love Hector.

HoratioNightboy · 18/03/2018 11:29

I like it! And as a verb, it's no worse than Harry.

pipilangstrumpf · 19/03/2018 09:07

The meaning of 'to hector' would put me off, as would the nickname Heck...!

spiderbear · 24/03/2018 20:43

Love the name Hector .. it's on my list - my DH isn't in agreement tho.....yet!

Smoliver · 24/03/2018 22:27

I love Hector. I also like Walter and Stanley.

buttercup54321 · 24/03/2018 22:34

You like some awfyl names. poor kid. Just go with John or BERT.

TroubledLichen · 24/03/2018 22:40

Hate hate hate Stanley. Victor isn’t much better. I don’t like Walter. I know someone with a Hugo and a Hector- both great names and definitely my favourites from your list! Hector clinches it for being a bit more unusual so would definitively be my top pick. Earnest and Jasper both nice too though.

elQuintoConyo · 24/03/2018 22:44

I know a 12yo Hector and a 17yo Hector. No animals.

I like your other listed names except Stanley, although i'm sure if i met your toddling 18mo Stanley i'd think it was adorable!

MadMaryBoddington · 24/03/2018 22:52

Dislike Hector. It sounds like the name of a comedy character, though I couldn’t explain why.

Hugo is nice.

Snowbelled · 24/03/2018 22:57

Hector means harass to me. I would have been very embarrassed to have this name. Victor is better. The rest sounds like kids that get picked on.

Tilly35 · 24/03/2018 23:06

We nearly went with Hector, we like strong names, everyone we spoke to hated it. He didn’t look like a Hector though and we named him Roman instead. He was just ‘baby’for 2 weeks, maybe wait and see what he looks like!

Baubletrouble43 · 24/03/2018 23:16

Hector is great but I think Stanley is also great and matches Arthur better x

Ontopofthesunset · 24/03/2018 23:22

I wouldn't go for another name ending in an 'er' sound if your older son is Arthur. I like Hugo best but think Ernest is interesting and after that Victor. I know quite a few Hugos and Stanleys, a couple of Hectors (both Latin American) and lots of Arthurs.

latchkeyadult · 24/03/2018 23:35

I love Hector! And think it's fine with Arthur.

I also like Victor but am not a fan at all of Walter, Hugo, Stanley or Humphrey.

ClaraZafara · 25/03/2018 00:52

Hugo is very popular here. I like Hector a lot, but I wanted to call DS Horacio so might not be the best judge.

Fakingit36 · 25/03/2018 02:39

As a previous poster said it’s mostly a Latin American/Hispanic name here in the US. I like it. That association probably wouldn’t be so strong in the UK.

RockinHippy · 25/03/2018 02:58

No, just no. Sorry, it's hideous.
