How do you spell this baby name

I heard someone on TV say their name and I thought it was a lovely name for any future daughters Wink but I can't for the life of me figure out how it is spelled

Phonetically it is pronounced PA Treece sa...like Patrice with an "ah" on the end...

But if it's spelled that way Patrica looks too much like the name Patricia

I’m not sure that’s a name tbh. There’s the name Patrica but that has a hard C.

You can have an alternative pronunciation of Patricia like Pat-Ree-See-A. That is how it is pronounced in Spain. It’s the same as Alicia - it can be Al-Ee-Sha or Al-Ee-See-A. Could that be what you thinking of?

But if you went with that then, because it’s an unusual pronunciation, they will have to spend a lifetime correcting people. I knew an Alicia (4 syllables) who got very annoyed at everybody pronouncing her name with 3 syllables.

Cosmoa · 16/03/2018 09:01

It's definitely a name and it is written like you said... Patrice.

If you're unsure just Google it 😂

pipilangstrumpf · 16/03/2018 09:12

I know a couple of boys/men called Patrice. Nice name.

Speedy85 · 16/03/2018 09:17

Patrice is a name but it doesn’t end in an ‘ah’ sound. The OP wants a name like Pat-Reess-Ah.

NanooCov · 16/03/2018 09:25

It's Patricia but just pronounced differently.

TartanDr3ams · 16/03/2018 09:28

The original spelling is Patrica - was a common America name in the late 60s, early 70s. But I once nannyd a little girl whose name was spelt Patreeca. Im not sure which i prefer but like you said Id worry the first would have my child mis-pronounced as patricia too often....

MammieBear · 16/03/2018 09:32

Patricia to me also...

ElderflowerWaterIsDelish · 16/03/2018 09:54

I've tried coming up with spelling for it (though I'm not sure any look right, they look like those made up spelling namesBlush)
Patreeca
Patreesa
Patreaca
Patreasa
Patrica
Patrisa

It's pronounced PA-TREECE-SA

It's not Patricia PA-TRISHA

and it's not Patrice PA-TREECE

It's the first time in a long time that I've heard a name and not had any idea of how to begin to spell it Grin

OP posts:
glitterbiscuits · 16/03/2018 09:58

Patrisa would probably be the best way to get the pronunciation you want and still look ok.

It may get shortened to Patty, Patsy or Pat though.

ElderflowerWaterIsDelish · 16/03/2018 09:59

Speedy85 I love Alicia

I've heard three different pronunciations for that name

A-Liss-see-ah

A-Lee-sha

A-Lee-see-ah

I like the A-Liss-see-ah and A-Lee-see-ah pronunciations bestGrin it's a pretty name

ElderflowerWaterIsDelish · 16/03/2018 10:01

glitterbiscuits I'm Irish Grin so paddy, patty , patsy and pat are pretty common nicknames in my area for those called Patrick , Patrice and patricia

I forgot to include Patricsa in the list of trying to spell it Blush

Faintlinesquints · 16/03/2018 10:10

I have a friend named Patresa, pronounced as you have described. She almost always gets called Patricia by others though, I call her Paddy.

You could always have Patreesha (reminds me of shameless)

In the nicest way, if it's this hard for you to come up with a spelling for your own child's name then you can expect a lifetime of people pronouncing and spelling it wrongly.

TheSaviorsAreNonU · 16/03/2018 10:11

If you like that would you like Parisa? Pronounced Par-ees-ah

bridgetreilly · 16/03/2018 19:33

Patrizia?

Minestheoneinthegreen · 16/03/2018 20:33

Patrizia- I've taught a child with this name.

Glumglowworm · 16/03/2018 21:03

The only “pa tree sha” I ever met was spelled Patricia. She also had a very ordinary middle name that was pronounced differently as well!

It just seems pretentious to me, like Hyacinth Bucket/Bouquet.

sidewayswithatescotrolley · 16/03/2018 21:06

Patrizia

that wouldn't make the sound OP wants, that would be Pah-trit-sia.

Belindabauer · 16/03/2018 22:32

My grandma used to always pronounce her nieces name as Patresha , her name was Patricia.

ElderflowerWaterIsDelish · 16/03/2018 23:24

I tried an alternative spelling name generator online where you type in your name and it gives alternative spellings of the name,

I tried "Patrica" and it came up with Patryca

OP posts:
Greenyogagirl · 16/03/2018 23:29

Patrieca? Pahtreesah? Patrhysa? Patreeca? Confused

CompleteAisling · 16/03/2018 23:30

Patryca isn't a name, its a type of machine tool in Polish!

The only thing that would make the sound you want, in English anyway, is Patrisa. Which is a province in Budapest.

Speedy85 · 17/03/2018 08:24

Well if you just want that sound then I would go with the spelling Patrissa because that looks like how it’s pronounced, but it’s not currently really recognised as a name if you know what I mean (eg there weren’t any babies born with that name in the UK last year).

MikeUniformMike · 17/03/2018 15:22

I'll add a 4th. Alicia pronounced as Alisha. Just like Patricia is Patrisha.
I always though it was a lovely name but when a colleague had a daughter and said her name was Al-issy-a, I said, I'd never heard it before and colleague looked at me like I was mad and said A-L-I-C-I-A.
My SIL's SIL is Alicia pronounced Aleesha.

MikeUniformMike · 17/03/2018 15:23

Patrice is nice.
