Juno

Any thoughts on the name Juno? I like the fact she was a goddess and I think it goes well with my other daughter's name (Maia).
I've also considered Juliet - maybe I like the J sound?!
I'm just worried Juno is a bit 'out there'....but at the same time, I do like it for reasons stated above!

There is a boy in my DD's class called Juno, it actually suits as a boys name I think.

SuperBeagle · 14/03/2018 09:23

But Juno is definitely a feminine name. Confused It's as feminine in history as Hera, its Greek equivalent.

SpringMayHaveSprung · 14/03/2018 09:31

Junoesque is an adjective for women.

NebularNerd · 14/03/2018 10:04

Thanks for replies. Not worried about it sounding like a boy's name since she was a Roman goddess (probs wouldn't name my son after a goddess, tbh...)
Baby is due in June too so yes seems doubly appropriate😀

Love it always have.

TatianaLarina · 14/03/2018 13:35

Juno is great. Juliet is awful.

TatianaLarina · 14/03/2018 13:39

I’d like to think the boy’s parents chose the name despite its gender, but I’d think it more likely they don’t have a clue.

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 14/03/2018 13:45

I like it, but it's different perspectives - people aware of mythology etc will immediately recognise. People not interested will probably just think of that film - that's the only element that would put me off.

Bit like when Richard Gere named his son Homer - I remember thinking at the time - is he naming it after the poet Homer, or Homer Simpson? (which was newly popular back then in the 90s). The name seemed entirely different dependent on which angle looking at it.

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 14/03/2018 13:47

Grin naming child of Homer Simpson would be funny though

LastNightsMakeUp · 14/03/2018 16:21

I’d think of the film but also of the tempest. If you’re going to name a child after ‘the queen of the gods’ I think that’s pretty aspirational for the baby 😊
I don’t think it’s ‘too’ out there but I would say to add a very feminine sounding mn to balance it.
Once your baby goes to school the film will be practically ancient anyway!

I met a little Juno a few years ago. I said "what a lovely name" and her big sister said "mummy didn't name her after the film". Grin

NinjagoNinja · 14/03/2018 18:18

It also makes me think "d'you know".

dancinghen · 14/03/2018 19:15

Immediately thought of the film and a pregnant teenager. Am not a great fan 😕

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 14/03/2018 19:25

Oh wow Ninja, I've never heard it like that before as "d'you know".

I think I always will now! Grin

I don't like Juno. Then again, I dislike Juliet, too! They both seem pretentious to me. I guess I'd go for Juneau if I had to (after the interesting place). Maya is ok. There are lots of Maya's about.

NameChangedForThisQ · 14/03/2018 19:42

Hate Juno tbh. Juniper nicer

JackietheBackie · 14/03/2018 19:47

Love Juno. As well as the Goddess there is a fantastic Irish play called Juno and the Paycock. There are a few about but you are unlikely to have loads with her name when she starts school.

Florrieboo · 14/03/2018 21:13

The male Juno we know is from Japan where his mum says it is a popular boys name - who knows I have never been there.

TatianaLarina · 14/03/2018 22:15

Fair enough I was categorising it with Beau for a girl and Anaïs pronounced Anay.

Enterthedragons · 16/03/2018 03:02

Love it and it is perfection as a sibset with Maya.
