What does everyone think of the name Ellis for a boy?

He would have a Surname beginning with P that is 3 syllables. Any suggestions on a middle name?

My grandads name who passed away 35 years ago - love it.

clairehr · 12/03/2018 14:56

Thus definitely seems to be a very Marmite name 😂

I know a woman called Ellis Smile she's lovely, if that sways you! Kind and generous, and a wicked sense of humour Grin

Cosmoa · 12/03/2018 15:41

It's my sisters name but she has rarely met another girl with her name! Mainly boys.

FartnissEverbeans · 12/03/2018 15:50

It's a lovely name. I've been teaching secondary for ten years and have only ever come across one (a boy - he'd be in his twenties by now).

Thanks all for opinions 😊

Love it

tomatosalt · 13/03/2018 13:12

It’s the second of my two middle names! Amazed by all the posters who thought it was a girls name. I’ve spent my life thus far explaining that it’s not part of my surname because it seems quite masculine compared to my other two very girly given names. I like it regardless and think it would be great for a boy too.

LastNightsMakeUp · 13/03/2018 18:19

I love Ellis for a boy, it’ll actually be on our short list. I like the meaning also and haven’t met any little Ellis’ around yet.
I also like Joseph and James but maybe too religious for your OH?

DontDrinkDontSmoke · 13/03/2018 18:23

Nice old fashioned name.

clairehr · 13/03/2018 18:38

@LastNightsMakeup Exactly why we're considering it too. It's not too popular, and the meaning is just spot on for us!

Yes, OH doesn't like Joseph unfortunately, and there is already a James on my side of the family. Tricky working around it all 😂

Sounds a bit wet to me.

mintbiscuit · 13/03/2018 18:43

It’s a more common name in the US and Caribbean I think. My Ellis is 14yrs and it definitely wasn’t common in the UK when he was born. However, is in Jamaica where his grandparents are from (according to them!)

MedusaBadHairDay · 13/03/2018 18:46

I know an Ellis, he’s a really nice genuine guy. It doesn’t sound girly to me - gets my vote.

MedusaBadHairDay · 13/03/2018 18:47

Also the Ellis I know is a black belt in karate Grin

LastNightsMakeUp · 13/03/2018 19:01

@clairehr my brother is also James so he’d forever be claiming we named baby after him... I can just about live with that!

I think we have similar tastes. How about Elliott? I knew a lovely little boy through work called Elliott so I have had to rule it out - but I love it

Emma198 · 13/03/2018 19:03

I really like Ellis.

clairehr · 13/03/2018 19:06

@LastNightsMakeup We're considering Elliott as well, however we both used to work with an Elliott who.... wasn't our favourite person so again we're unsure!

I LOVE Ellis.

The first time I heard it was the main male character in a movie I really liked called "The Age of Adaline". I thought it was a beautiful name! Smile

LastNightsMakeUp · 13/03/2018 19:13

@clairehr it’s hard isn’t it! Such responsibility!

clairehr · 13/03/2018 19:45

@CornyCollins I may have to watch that, could just sway me either way!!

@LastNightsMakeup SUCH a responsibility! Desperate to get it right!

CornyCollins · 13/03/2018 19:56

@clairehr It will once you see the actor! I think he was in Game of Thrones too, he was also very beautiful!!

clarrylove · 13/03/2018 20:00

Not keen for a boy. Prefer Elian.
