Guessing Game

Thought this would make a fun thread and maybe also provide names for people that are choosing that they wouldn't have thought of otherwise.

Think of a name (your child's or any name really) and provide 3 clues.

Other posters have to guess the name and once someone gets it right, it's their turn!

I'll start:

2 syllables

Very definitely a boys name but there is a feminine version

2 very common abbreviations/nicknames

OP posts:

clairehr · 24/03/2018 15:13

Yes please Bexter!

Bexter801 · 24/03/2018 15:15

Okay.......he could light up your life, but maybe not in a good way

SquirrelsareUs · 24/03/2018 15:22

Not Lucifer (again)?

Bexter801 · 24/03/2018 15:23

Oh I wasn't aware it was already used, but yes

SquirrelsareUs · 24/03/2018 15:34

There's a list on p.11
Andrew, Serafina, Eli, Verity, Juliet, Agatha, Phoebe, Frances, Rebecca, Thomas, Cecilia, Leonard, Bianca, Charlotte, David, Martha, Piper, Donald, Peter, Niamh, Lucifer, Demelza, Nevaeh, Alexander, Christopher, Miranda, William, Robert, Jack, Jude, Rachel, Hyacinth, Aurora

I think this is actually the old devil's third mention.....

Now I'd better scan back and make sure my chosen name hasn't already been done....

Bexter801 · 24/03/2018 15:36

Ah darn,I actually thought I as being quite crafty using such an unusual name....

SquirrelsareUs · 24/03/2018 15:49

List from p.22
Andrew, Serafina, Eli, Verity, Juliet, Agatha, Phoebe, Frances, Rebecca, Thomas, Cecilia, Leonard, Bianca, Charlotte, David, Martha, Piper, Donald, Peter, Niamh, Lucifer, Demelza, Nevaeh, Alexander, Christopher, Miranda, William, Robert, Jack, Jude, Rachel, Margaret, Basil, Hyacinth, Aurora, Jessamine, Nicola, Kerry, Susan, Seren, Julia, Meredith, Bernard, Arthur, Ross, Blanche, Amy, Alicia, Stephen/Steven, Talitha/Tabitha, Ruth, Noah, Rowan, Lucille, Kit (Christian), Alice, Lydia, Beatrice

It's hard to check because sometimes there are loads of names suggested so you have to read quite carefully.

OK, I think I'm in the clear with this one.
A foreign variant of a traditional British boys' name which is becoming popular again.
The foreign name looks and sounds as if it's a diminutive, but it isn't.
He probably wouldn't be very welcome in Wales.

clairehr · 24/03/2018 16:37

Thanks for the list. Bit stuck on this one, so I'll just guess Henri for now!

SquirrelsareUs · 24/03/2018 17:05

Further clue: there is, however, an area of the UK where he'd feel very much at home.
(I'm going out for the evening in a couple of hours so if you don't want to be hanging on overnight.....)

SquirrelsareUs · 24/03/2018 17:07

Claire... no, but you've got the right idea.. although the names are more different than Henry and Henri.

FintyTin · 24/03/2018 18:03

Jordi? Sounds like a diminutive of George (hence not welcome in Wales on account of slaying a dragon), but feels at home on Tyneside?

SquirrelsareUs · 24/03/2018 18:16

Well done Finty, Jordi it is! The Catalan Saint, the equivalent of George.

Apologies for taking so long with this - bedtime was a little challenging this evening!

She hides a shorter girl. She’s twice a solo man; but you can’t tell if she’s coming or going.
