Guessing Game

Thought this would make a fun thread and maybe also provide names for people that are choosing that they wouldn't have thought of otherwise.

Think of a name (your child's or any name really) and provide 3 clues.

Other posters have to guess the name and once someone gets it right, it's their turn!

I'll start:

2 syllables

Very definitely a boys name but there is a feminine version

2 very common abbreviations/nicknames

OP posts:

I think you've got it @applesandpears56!

applesandpears56 · 19/03/2018 22:53

If it is I’m still not sure on the 3rd bit of the clue :-)

applesandpears56 · 19/03/2018 22:54

Was guessing on the composer of sabre dance, grandson of Noah and biblical place!

finallychangedmyusername · 19/03/2018 22:54

Aram is the third day of the month in the Armenian calendar

applesandpears56 · 19/03/2018 22:56

Ooo fingers crossed!

applesandpears56 · 19/03/2018 22:57

God how have I spent my evening studying ancient biblical maps?! This game is definitely addictive

DuggeeHugs · 20/03/2018 00:00

@applesandpears56 has it Grin

As you have correctly deduced: the third day of the month in the Armenian calendar is Aram. Aram Khachaturian was the Soviet Armenian composer of the Sabre Dance. Finally, Noah had 16 grandsons, one of whom was called Aram.

The biblical place Aram is now Syria.

You're up apples!

applesandpears56 · 20/03/2018 00:09

Grin great clues!

Right well my brain is hurting a bit after that so this is a nice easy one -

This boys name might surprise you with a body part

DuggeeHugs · 20/03/2018 00:10

Oleg?

applesandpears56 · 20/03/2018 00:35

Nope

Bexter801 · 20/03/2018 02:05

Anthony?

Bexter801 · 20/03/2018 02:09

And well done @applesandpears56 :) I don't know how I missed it,after all my research I now know,Noah has 3 son's(ham the odd one out) 16 grandsons.....etc!

DuggeeHugs · 20/03/2018 05:38

Oliver

applesandpears56 · 20/03/2018 06:45

Well done duggee - back to you!

DuggeeHugs · 20/03/2018 07:09

I'm actually disappointed it wasn't Oleg because it made me laugh (I might be a tad sleep deprived) but it was a fun clue Smile

Right-o then:

This gallic confectioners child hid in a cranny without losing any of her natural grace

Joinourclub · 20/03/2018 09:19

Anouk?

FintyTin · 20/03/2018 10:07

Ann?

Still cross with myself for completely misunderstanding the “dancing sabres at dawn” clue. Thought it meant an anagram (as in the letters were dancing) and spent the best part of an hour trying to make a name from ‘sabres at dawn’. Gah!! Blush

DuggeeHugs · 20/03/2018 12:34

@joinourclub has it

Anouk is the daughter of Viane from Chocolat. Her name means grace. The other bit was a nook and a cranny.

Sorry about the clue finty - I hadn't thought of dancing in relation to anagrams but will tuck that idea away for future reference Smile

Joinourclub · 20/03/2018 12:49

She lives high in the hills and says hello to the campers.

FintyTin · 20/03/2018 12:50

Well done Joinourclub!

I found Ann in the crANNy, and it also means ‘grace’; but I’ve not read Chocolat (too afraid of triggering a fridge raid! 😄) so I missed that part. I need to read the clues more closely - that was a good one.

My excuse is that I was too frazzled from playing along with Only Connect...😁

FintyTin · 20/03/2018 12:51

Heidi?

Joinourclub · 20/03/2018 12:57

Yes Finty

FintyTin · 20/03/2018 14:15

Great, thank you 😊

This is the best I can manage, inspired by my current in-car listening:

He was the first third son.
He has a musician namesake who sounds like he lives by the water.
You'll find him if you start to mix these clues around.

Bexter801 · 20/03/2018 14:31

Sonny?

Bexter801 · 20/03/2018 14:35

Or Phoenix?
