Guessing Game

Thought this would make a fun thread and maybe also provide names for people that are choosing that they wouldn't have thought of otherwise.

Think of a name (your child's or any name really) and provide 3 clues.

Other posters have to guess the name and once someone gets it right, it's their turn!

I'll start:

2 syllables

Very definitely a boys name but there is a feminine version

2 very common abbreviations/nicknames

OP posts:

Elizabeth!

HecatesBroom · 18/03/2018 20:15

Lydia

applesandpears56 · 18/03/2018 20:15

Nearly there finally - but I’m looking for the wayward younger sister

finallychangedmyusername · 18/03/2018 20:16

Wrong Bennett sister, Lydia?!

finallychangedmyusername · 18/03/2018 20:16

Dammit, pipped to the post! Grin

applesandpears56 · 18/03/2018 20:17

Hurrah! Hescates has it!
Sorry I made it harder than I intended
There was an ancient kingdom called Lydia in Asia Minor
There is a saint Lydia
And I was thinking of Lydia Bennett
Next time bexter Smile

finallychangedmyusername · 18/03/2018 20:18

Well done @HecatesBroom

Bexter801 · 18/03/2018 20:21

Aw what,I'm never going to get one! Well done @HecatesBroom

HecatesBroom · 18/03/2018 20:24

Thanks...

OK, this lady is the elder sister, a poet's muse and a feisty character
(3 different ladies, all with the same name).

finallychangedmyusername · 18/03/2018 20:35

Calliope?

HecatesBroom · 18/03/2018 20:36

More mainstream than that.

HecatesBroom · 18/03/2018 20:36

"muse" not "Muse"

finallychangedmyusername · 18/03/2018 20:40

Ooh, Marianne?

HecatesBroom · 18/03/2018 20:41

Non.

finallychangedmyusername · 18/03/2018 20:48

Beatrice?

HecatesBroom · 18/03/2018 20:49

Got it.

HecatesBroom · 18/03/2018 20:51

Well done: we seem to be the only two still here.....

finallychangedmyusername · 18/03/2018 20:51

Yayyy!!! OK, I've got a few to choose between, give me a couple of minutes.... Grin

finallychangedmyusername · 18/03/2018 20:55

Nah, I reckon there's a few people perusing this thread hitting refresh and trying to uncover clues! Grin

OK, going to do a fun one:

'Proper' name for she who makes a brew and she who rhymes with a flowering plant (who also rhymes with she who makes a brew!)

finallychangedmyusername · 18/03/2018 21:09

Apologies, my clue made no sense (I shouldn't hit the red wine on a Sunday night clearly!)

Trying again:

'Proper' name for she who makes a brew, a festive flowering plant (who rhymes with she who makes a brew!) and an 18th century literary heroine (who almost rhymes with the other two clues!).

FintyTin · 18/03/2018 21:11

Mary?

HecatesBroom · 18/03/2018 21:12

Nah, Polly, Holly, Molly

finallychangedmyusername · 18/03/2018 21:13

You got @FintyTin! Mary it is.

Polly put the kettle on
Holly is the flowering plant
Moll Flanders

Proper name for all three is Mary.

You're up again, @FintyTin Smile

HecatesBroom · 18/03/2018 21:15

Oh, thinks again.... you probably are right Finty as Molly and Polly can both be Mary and the clue said "Proper" name.

HecatesBroom · 18/03/2018 21:17

Holly is a derivative of Mary? I never knew that.....
