Winter?

Dh really likes the name winter for a girl and I do like it but our baby is going to be born in may so seems like an odd choice, I also really like summer and don’t mind autum but dh isn’t keen on either of these?

It's not my cup of tea but nn Winnie is cute.

I wouldn't call a girl born in May Winter
Just as wouldn't call a gIrl born in January Summer. However I'm probably in the minority.

She will always be asked if she was born in winter or have people surprised at her birthday in May. You may have to go for Spring;) or go for a spring flower?

I don't like Winter.

At least Summer has the benefit of being named after a good season. Winter's bleak, grey, rainy etc. (well, it is in the UK). Not a great connotation.

May is a lovely name.

Don't like Winter as a name, and definitely not for a baby born in May! Winter is getting pretty popular, and Wint/Win/Winnie are nice nicknames.

In actual fact, I don't think when the baby is born needs to have any bearing.

I feel fairly certain that many Summers weren't born in Summer. I certainly wouldn't occur to me wonder that, let alone ask the person.

I know a few Summers who don't have summer birthdays, so I think it's fine to go with Winter.

No. Winter isn’t a name to me, it’s a season. I know Summer is fairly “accepted” but its usage is much more widespread. Winter is all cold and frosty to me, I’d choose a cheerier name.

I’m not keen in it anyway and I think a summer born Winter would strike a slightly odd note. (Sorry)

Winter is a boys name to me, because that's it's normal Victorian sex (and it's in my family tree).

And yes, I think it would look extremely odd for something that is not an established name (where people have forgotten the meaning) to be used out-of-season

Winter is lovely. I do this she would be asked all the time if she was born then, but I still think you can use it for a May baby.

Or how about Aster, Clover, Piper, Juniper as alternatives?

May is a lovely name. June is really pretty too. (And April for that matter. How come the other months aren't names!?)

January is sometimes a name.

It's a season or a surname to me.

I like it as a middle name. I remember ages ago there was a thread with a lady who was having twins, one of the names was Vivienne Winter, I thought that was beautiful.

Actually as a middle name, it's a lot cooler (ha!). Way better than the usual filler - Rose / Grace / May type names.

may isn't winter so seems a bit weird but if you're not worried about looking a bit strange ie just saying 'because we like the word' then go for it
