What would you think?

What would you think of you were introduced to a baby called Wilfred, possibly nn Wilf or Wilfie? Do you think it will age well. I really like it, but now sure how a teenage boy would feel being called it, but then i guess he would be surrounded by Arthur's, Stanley's and Dougie's so is it that different?

I like it

Crispbutty · 28/02/2018 19:05

He can call himself Fred or Freddie too. I like it.

Willswife · 28/02/2018 19:07

I really don't like it. But I'm sure there's not a name that is universally liked.

upsideup · 28/02/2018 19:14

I really like it, if he wants to blend in he can go by Will

Roseandmabelshouse · 28/02/2018 19:16

I'd think it's really popular at the moment!

I like it

chezmk1988 · 28/02/2018 19:17

I like it

WildWindsBlowing · 28/02/2018 19:19

I like it and I like the poetry of Wilfred Owen.
'Wilf' and 'Wilfie' are sweet nick names too.

Loyly · 28/02/2018 19:21

I don't like it, sorry.

Eilasor · 28/02/2018 19:22

I know three baby Wilfred's, so I wouldn't think anything of it!

Eilasor · 28/02/2018 19:27

As a personal opinion, I think it will date. Obviously it's an old name that is already 'dated' but I don't think it's one that will become a 'classic' long term. But that isn't really a problem for me, although it seems to be for a lot on MN.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/02/2018 19:30

Really dislike it.

AnyaMoondial · 28/02/2018 19:30

It's really good, I don't think it'll seem out of place with other names that are popular now.

crackerjacket · 28/02/2018 19:31

Meh.

Crispbutty · 28/02/2018 19:34

“Obviously it's an old name that is already 'dated' but I don't think it's one that will become a 'classic' long term. “

I would disagree and say it is a classic name.

Sophronia · 28/02/2018 21:17

The most recent baby I know of is a Wilfred nn Wilf

newcupcake · 28/02/2018 21:20

The Unmumsy mums new baby is called Wilf so it must be on trend Grin

Joeybee · 28/02/2018 21:24

LOVE this name. I'd use it myself if it didn't clash with my surname. I think of a Wilfred being a kind, gentle boy, but one with a cheeky, mischievous streak.

BikeRunSki · 28/02/2018 21:26

I wouldn’t think much other than “is he known as Wilf or Freddie?”. It is a pretty popular baby name at the moment, I know/know of 3.

MollyHuaCha · 28/02/2018 21:26

Nice name.
And better than Jaxon.

Eilasor · 28/02/2018 22:00

crispbutty - I see a classic as a name that has maintained popularity to at least a certain extent throughout generations (like Thomas, William, John, Henry, etc), not a come-back name like Wilfred. But I may have the wrong perception.

I do like the name, though!

Buntysoven · 03/03/2018 00:08

Fab!

pipilangstrumpf · 03/03/2018 07:21

I don't like it

peterpanwendy · 03/03/2018 08:04

Lovely name! And yes so many nn possibilities for a teenager to toy with if they so wish. You're right though, it may seem a little 'out there' to us now but in 15-20 years these names will be the norm :)
