Ruairi (Irish spelling) but pronounced Rory.

I know the traditional way to say it in Ireland is Roo-a-ree (like Brewery without the B) but I'm not fond of the sound.

DH's grandad was Irish and DH would like an Irish name for next baby. I love the spelling of this but love the sound of Rory (whereas find the Rory spelling a bit bland).

Does it matter?!

Any Ruairí/Ruaidhrí I know will usually answer to Rory anyway (and I live in Ireland).

I don't know what the issue is! I've met plenty of 'Rory's' who spell is Ruairi.. I work in an office in England and speak to them enough..I love this spelling!! Please use it!!

I’m in the north of Scotland and we have Ruaraidh up here, that’s the Scottish Gaelic way of spelling it.

I do know a few who are also known as Ru and Rory though.

I have a Ruairidh, we live in England and lots of people pronounce it Rory, it doesn't really bother us and both sound fairly similar as long as you're not saying it super slowly! We call him Ru for short.
