What are your thoughts on Adelaide for a girl. I have no personal associations with the place I just like the name, it has an old-fashioned feel to it for me

I like it and I have predicted it for the new royal baby. I also like adeline

SuperBeagle · 23/02/2018 20:09

Adelaide the place is often called the "Serial Killer Capital of the World", so not exactly the best place to have your name associated with.

I don't like it. But then I'm Australian so Adelaide and all of its connotations come with the name, for me.

bridgetreilly · 24/02/2018 00:39

I like it. I think it's extremely unlikely to be the name of the royal baby.

Tantay · 24/02/2018 00:51

Love it and it is my daughter’s name. Really positive response from friends and family about it. Only had two people look at me a bit funny and ask “...because you liked Adelaide in Australia?” 😄

Tantay · 24/02/2018 00:52

Wow did not know Adelaide is the serial killer capital of the world. You learn something every day!

But it's not, not anywhere near. Just google it.

BakedBeans47 · 24/02/2018 10:15

Horrible and clunky sounding and makes me think of Miss Adelaide in the Wombles. Showing my age lol

Mossbystrand · 24/02/2018 15:43

Nice name, similar sounding names are:
Adele
Adeline
Adelina
I've met people with all three of those names and they are lovely ladies. My favourite out of those three is Adelina, I've not met an Adelaide yet.

SuperBeagle · 24/02/2018 20:48

But it's not, not anywhere near. Just google it.

Not relevant. It's called that often, regardless of whether it's accurate. It was certainly more accurate in the past.

doesthislookoddtoyou · 25/02/2018 00:57

So its called that by idiots who are completely wrong? Who cares what they think?

It's not even the serial killer capital of Australia, its nowhere near that of the whole world.

SuperBeagle · 25/02/2018 02:27

You're still missing the point, mate.

Are you from Adelaide? Have a bit of a chip on your shoulder?

MakeItStopNeville · 25/02/2018 02:37

I LOVE Adelaide. It sounded absolutely ridiculous with our surname so we couldn't use it 15 years ago! Addy for short.

MakeItStopNeville · 25/02/2018 02:39

I'm confused by an earlier post. Why would you call your kid Adelaide and say, Heidi for short?! Why not just call them, I dunno, Heidi?!! :D

alpineibex · 25/02/2018 02:41

Neville

French form of the Old German Adalheidis, a compound of 'athal' (noble) and 'haida' (hood).

Something to do with that I guess?

goldopals · 25/02/2018 02:46

I'm from Adelaide so wouldn't ever name a kid that but otherwise it is a nice name. Adelaide is a sleepy town but great place to live

HuskyMcClusky · 25/02/2018 03:00

My friend has an Adelaide and I think it’s really pretty (despite being from Aus!).

I’m v surprised that it’s tipped for the royal baby, though. It doesn’t seem a Charlotte/George/Mary type of name to me. Confused

Kokeshi123 · 25/02/2018 11:51

Really like it.

doesthislookoddtoyou · 25/02/2018 11:53

You're still missing the point, mate

No, you are. Just because it is called something wrongly by idiots who don't know any better (and really, no-one ever hears of what happens in Australia anyway, so no-one even knows how many people say this wrong thing) doesn't mean anything to anyone. It has no relevance to anyone picking the name.
