Rosie Lee, cup of tea?

I’m thinking of calling my daughter Rosie Lee but have heard this means cup of tea in Cockney rhyming slang. Is this well known and would it put you off the name?

Thanks:)

Yes I'm afraid it would. However I'm an over thinker. Others might not even get on to it.
However if you're only going to use Rosie day to day that should be fine.

PickleFish · 16/02/2018 22:31

Yes it's well known. Probably would put me off, though at least it's not a bad association. But it's what a lot of people would think of when hearing the name. there are also endless tea shops, brands of tea, etc named after it.

SuperBeagle · 16/02/2018 22:36

I have an aunt called Rosie Lee, but we're in Australia, so it's not been a problem (even though Cockney slang is reasonably well known here).

Maybe call her Rose Lee. That way when he name is said in full, it's not Rosie Lee cup of tea, it's just Rose, but you can still call her Rosie as a "shortening".

How about Rosalie?

Is Lee the surname or are you wanting to double barrel?

PaperdollCartoon · 16/02/2018 22:38

Lee is a male spelling of the name for a start

Sorry but when I read it my mind automatically said "needs a pee" after it Blush

SuperBeagle · 16/02/2018 22:51

I'm assuming Lee is the surname. The Rosie Lee in my family is a Lee by surname.

RoseyOldCrow · 16/02/2018 22:54

Rosalee - Thin Lizzy song (a nice one tbh)
Rosie Lee - cuppa tea. Unavoidable, sorry.

TulipsInABlueVase · 16/02/2018 23:04

Yes it's very well known and would definitely put me off. Don't do it.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/02/2018 07:15

I would call her Rosanna Lee (Rosie).
Yes, Rosie Lee is very wide spread, but I love the name above.

howthelightgetsin · 17/02/2018 07:51

Is Lee the surname? In which case absolutely not. You say your first and last name together many times a day and can you imagine saying that you someone in a call centre who starts laughing or picking up the phone at work “Rosie Lee” 20 times a day and even if one or two people a day snigger? It would be awful.

Or is a middle name you’re considering? In which case I think there are better middle names but it’s not the end of the world.

BlackberryandNettle · 17/02/2018 20:22

It wouldn't put me off as it's quite cute. Why not just use Rosalie though? People will probably be unsure if you're saying Rosie-Lee or Rosalie as they sound so similar

BlackberryandNettle · 17/02/2018 20:24

She'd probably appreciate having Rosalie as an adult - much more grown up

BlackberryandNettle · 17/02/2018 20:25

You could just use Rosie-Lee as a pet name growing up maybe. Rosie-Lee cup-of-tea Rosalie

user258 · 17/02/2018 22:22

Rosie is lovely but think double barrel names are quite chavvy.

Snoopy90 · 18/02/2018 09:57

Thanks everyone, Lee is the surname. I’m not keen on any of the other Rose names but love Rosie. Thanks again:)
