Dorothy ("Dodie")

watching the reruns of My Three Sons on MeTV, I was wondering, how likely would it have been for a real life girl born in 1963 to have been named Dorothy? And the nickname Dodie, instead of Dotty or Dorry, seems even less likely.

Um, 101 Dalmatians author?

Round here "Dodie" is what people call a dummy ( ie the thing babies put in their mouth).

I don't think it's that unlikely. Dorothy was at number 124 in the 1960s - in America. In the '50s it was at number 58. So it was on the way out, but still used. Dodie is a common nickname - as was said: Dodie Smith.

Dodie is a dummy (the kind for babies)

I've never heard of dodie meaning a dummy. Maybe it's regional?

My sister's friend is called Dorothy, she was born 1960. And "Dodie" means a baby dummy, or a diminutive for George round my parts. Grin

DD is a huge fan of the you tuber/singer Dodie who must have been born about 1995 or something so it's still a name that's used. My previous association was the 100 Dakmatians author though.
