Have just seen this on another thread and as we are really struggling with boys names I'm adding it to our list.

Just wondered how you would pronounce it? I had been trying to steer clear of names with multiple pronunciations... I can think of

Zay-vee-ur (like saviour)

Or

Zah-vee-ay (French sounding)

Does that accord with others' thoughts? I have a Scottish accent btw...

Where do people get the ay sound from confused?

Zayv is just an English mispronunciation.

Creole Caribbean so the X is pronounced as a soft Z
Ex DH is Brazilian/Angolan they pronounce the X like a J there.

It's my brother's name they couldn't be bothered to pronounce it properly at school over her so be prepared for Ex-Ayy-Vi-Ah

Gzah-vee-ay
(French)

Surely this is very simple? The pronunciation varies across Europe. I don’t quite understand the ‘this is how I pronounce it so it’s correct GAVEL’ posts.

Yes. If ever there were a name that had multiple legitimate pronunciations it's Xavier.

There are multiple legitimate pronunciations of Xavier given it’s a Spanish-French name. Ex ay vee er is not one of them.

That just a British mispronunciation based on ignorance.
