Which do you prefer, and how many of each do you know?

Peter George?

MikeUniformMike · 11/02/2018 14:46

I only know one boy called Peter but many 55+ yr olds.
I like it very much. George is more 'current' but it probably a bit too popular now.
I only know one George who is middle aged or older.
Peter George Surname sounds and looks good.

GU24Mum · 11/02/2018 14:48

I'd say Peter too. We have a similar name for DS and would have liked Peter but couldn't for specific family reasons.

Can't believe one of the PPs doesn't know any Georges under 50 - we know hundreds!!

indigo13 · 11/02/2018 14:49

George is very overused now sadly. Peter is lovely!

MikeUniformMike · 11/02/2018 14:59

I think dad-type names are due a comeback. Alan, David, Andrew, Paul, Brian, Michael, Stephen, Philip, Richard, John etc are much nicer than the twee boys' names popular now.

Lennythelion14 · 12/02/2018 07:38

Peter, lovely and different. Not going to date and also not going to be one of many.

SuperBeagle · 12/02/2018 07:52

Peter.

FizzyGreenWater · 12/02/2018 10:01

Not a fan of Peter at all for some reason.

Slang for fart and penis.

To peter out.

Just not a nice shape to the word.

However - George is overused.

AssetRichIncomePoor · 12/02/2018 10:02

Peter.

Countingsheeeep · 12/02/2018 10:03

Thank you everyone for your feedback, I'm really suprised at what a positive response Peter has received!

I absolutely love it, and whilst dh said he also liked it, he now has decided that he really hates the nn Pete, which I suppose will be a natural nn as he gets older :(

Looks like it will most likely be George Peter :)

Peter is lovely!

George is becoming a little overused and it doesn't travel well into other languages. Peter is much more interesting and international.

Estellanpip · 12/02/2018 16:05

Mine is a teenager now and has never had 'Pete' as a nickname. I quite like it though!

AnaChocolatte · 12/02/2018 16:59

I like Peter - it feels really 1950's and ready for a revival. I know a few baby Johns now and it has a similar feel.

George is fine, over used so feels boring now.

Meemzinha · 12/02/2018 17:18

Both are a bit boring to be honest...

SadieHufflepuff · 12/02/2018 18:18

Peter definitely.

I know countless little Georges but no Peters.

SadieHufflepuff · 12/02/2018 18:19

I would say that George is boring. It is popular and predictable. Peter may have been boring thirty years ago but I think it would be quite quirky and unusual now.

AssetRichIncomePoor · 12/02/2018 18:36

Noooo! George is a lovely name too, but too popular. Peter is spot on. Not weird, but not too popular. I don't think a Peter is necessarily going to become Pete. My DP's name (another "classic" name) can easily be shortened, but it never is in his case, as it was always clear that he was going to be known by his full name rather than an abbreviation.

Cauliflowersqueeze · 12/02/2018 19:25

Prefer George.

Peter means to fart in French

NotAnotherEmma · 12/02/2018 20:56

George

Most of the Peter's I've known have been creeps.

fearfultrill · 12/02/2018 23:33

I like George better. Peter always makes me think of Perfect Peter from Horrid Henry....which isn't a bad thing particularly but may be for the child when he's older!

pipilangstrumpf · 13/02/2018 07:15

By that looks logic (Horrid) Henry would be unusable!

Love Peter, much more interesting than George

PinkAvocado · 13/02/2018 07:17

I prefer Peter. The one I know under 10, never gets called Pete.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/02/2018 16:39

If your dh hates Pete you're best off going with George. He can't be saying to him when he's 21. Don't call yourself Pete.
I had a friend Jennifer and her mum wouldn't have her called anything but.
However she's now known by Jen even by her mum . She simply said to her mum.
Mum, it's my name, and There's no argument

userabcname · 13/02/2018 16:52

I know a newborn George and have taught a few Georges although in my area there are certainly much more popular names (Archie, Alfie, Alex...). I don't know any babies or children called Peter. It is a nice name but I prefer George - in fact it's one of my favourite boys' names.
