Is Clementine from the walking dead game? That'll be where he got it from! I did wonder...

Rupert and Beatrice! I have the same problems with Clementine a) it's a fruit (just like calling your baby apple) b) the Clem/Clemmy shortening is inevitable and not nice imo.
