Alliteration?

I'm set on a name for baby #3 and have been for years but every person who knows the name says that alliteration is awful as our surname has the name first letter as the name and that our name isn't very feminine if our baby is a girl (we don't know the sex yet).

Is alliteration that bad? The middle name is a different letter but we won't often use that except on forms and when they're in trouble Grin

My dd1's name is an alliteration and it flows quite nicely.

It looks as if dd3's name will also be an alliteration if all goes to plan.

There might be a few names that might not sound quite right but on the whole I don't think this would be a problem.

My daughters name is alliterative and it sounds great (obvious slight bias but hey)

Wyatt Will(s) if that’s what it is sounds fine to me and also, for what it’s worth, totally works for a girl. I know a girl called Andi. She rocks it.

Pemba · 06/02/2018 18:58

Wyatt is OK-ish for a boy, I suppose, but truly horrible on a girl. Very unfeminine. I picture an ageing cowboy in boots and stetson. Particularly mean of Mila Kunis to do this to her daughter, as she has such a nice feminine name herself. Putting a feminine middle name in there won't make much difference, as people don't commonly use their middle names much.

Aliteration is fine in general.

Ds has alliterative first, middle and surname. I love it and have only had positive reactions (and it does sound a bit superhero too!)

BikeRunSki · 06/02/2018 19:47

I love alliterative names, but Wyatt W*** (I am also guessing Wilson) sounds a bit like a double barrelled surname.

MikeUniformMike · 06/02/2018 19:48

I wouldn't use it for a girl or boy but if you love it then go ahead. The alliteration is fine.
Wyatt Watts or Wyatt Whyte/White wouldn't work.

My DS has an alliterative name. I didn't even occur to me when we were choosing it and I only noticed after he was born (baby brain!), I love it though and am glad we chose it. It's not really an issue, nor can I see how it ever will be.

DramaAlpaca · 06/02/2018 22:10

I don't mind alliteration but Wyatt for a girl is awful. Sorry. It's not great for a boy either, but for a girl it's not nice at all. So harsh. Your baby, your choice of course.

SuperBeagle · 06/02/2018 23:41

I'm guessing it's Wyatt Wheeler?

The name itself isn't bad, though the alliteration is more jarring than if it was something like Wyatt Williamson or Wyatt Wilson.

But I second others that Wyatt for a girl is pretty bad. I love it for a boy, though.

Joeybee · 07/02/2018 09:19

I think it's really personal preference. Personally i can't stand aliteration in names. To me it makes it sound like the name of a bad entertainer or something. It just doesn't sound right. My favourite name is Raphael, but I'm not going to use it because my Surname is double-barrelled and both names begin with 'R'.

dkb15164 · 07/02/2018 10:13

I love Wyatt for a girl! A boy is nice too. There will be lots of girls with gender neutral names by the time she gets to school so don't worry about it. You guys love it and alliteration in a name makes them more memorable. Go for it!

GinIsIn · 07/02/2018 10:16

Ah. If it is Wyatt Wheeler I am not sure that works tbh. It sounds a bit like a brand of mobility aid. “New from the company that brought you the Stannah stairlift - the Wyatt Wheeler!”

Sorry!

It could sound like Wire Tw.... if the combination sounds like words.

Wyatt Witt = Wire Twit

etc.

user49er · 07/02/2018 10:22

My favourite name ever is Frankie Fredericks, the athlete, it's just so cool!

We have an RR and have never had a problem with it.
