Hello everyone!
Me and my partner are expecting our first baby in May, a baby boy.
My parter is completely sold on the name Rohan and I really don’t like it :( interested in your opinions and whether you think it’s more important that we both enjoy the name we pick.
Thank you in advance!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I think it's nice, but you absolutely both need to love the name you pick. So I would veto that one.

Rowan, Rian, Ryan?

villainousbroodmare · 04/02/2018 21:14

I like it but I really think you both have to like it, so back to the drawing board.

spikyjelly · 04/02/2018 21:19

Like the riders of Rohan..?

eurochick · 04/02/2018 21:20

I like it and know a child with the name.

DramaAlpaca · 04/02/2018 21:22

You both need to like the name.

RLOU88 · 04/02/2018 21:22

Thank you, everyone. I’m really not sure why I don’t like it. My partner has loved it and always wanted a son of his to have it so I am trying.

I love it. I know a 5 year old Rohan. Very strong name.

RavenWings · 04/02/2018 21:25

Could you use Rohan as a middle name?

I really wouldn't force yourself to like it. We like what we like - I have a very strong dislike of the name Matilda for example, even though it's adored on here.

FarmerSee · 04/02/2018 21:25

It's a nice name, I like it personally. But you both need to find one you both like imo. You don't want to spend the rest of your life calling your child by a name you really dislike.

My DH and I went for months disagreeing with each other's name choices, but we agreed that we both had to like it otherwise we'd resent each other (So no so-called 'compromises' such as I name it if it's a girl, he names it if it's a boy we drawn up).

We didn't agree on a name until 3 days before DS was born.

BuffyFan · 04/02/2018 21:28

As in Ro-han, or Ro-an?

Either way, you both need to like the name. Could you compromise on it as a middle name?

SparkleFizz · 04/02/2018 21:32

I think it’s important that both parents like the baby’s name.

RLOU88 · 04/02/2018 22:02

I agree we both need to like it. The other name we have is Jonah - what do people think is stronger ?
Thanks everyone for your opinions

RavenWings · 04/02/2018 22:13

I don't think either are 'strong' tbh. Both quite soft sounding but nice names.

If you're happier with Jonah, go with that.

fluffiphlox · 04/02/2018 22:15

I have quite a lot of Rohan outdoor clothing.

AppleKatie · 04/02/2018 22:16

IME Rohan isn’t a ‘strong’ bloke.

Doesn’t mean he isn’t a nice bloke but strong isn’t the adjective I’d use.

I’ve only known one Jonah and he was more of a sporty, strong ‘lad’.

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 04/02/2018 22:20

Ronan?

Sandsnake · 04/02/2018 22:21

I love Rohan. I’ve only ever heard it in boys of South Asian origin - think if you’re not of that background people might find it a bit unusual. I really like Jonah too!

Agree with pps though - you really need to both be happy with the name.

RLOU88 · 04/02/2018 22:36

Sorry I meant strong as in nicer I used the wrong word. Thank you everyone for your input :)

Rohan - very common where I am, huge Asian community. Jonah much less used.

RavenWings · 04/02/2018 22:44

I'd prefer Jonah to Rohan in any case.
I love the Ronan suggestion!

georgie262 · 04/02/2018 22:56

There is a Rohan in my sons class, his fathers Indian so I always thought it had Indian origins. I think it's lovely

Thehairthebod · 04/02/2018 22:59

The only Rohan I know of is a girl.

Thehairthebod · 04/02/2018 23:00

But she isn't Indian, I think it's normally an Indian boys name isn't it?

junebirthdaygirl · 04/02/2018 23:00

Jonah is a great name

Greensleeves · 04/02/2018 23:01

I prefer Rowan or Ronan
