Tia for a girl. A bit put off by what TIA is in medical terms, would you still use it?

Tia is a nice name. I would not have made the medical association.

Nn from Tabitha, Dorothea?

YerAuntFanny · 29/01/2018 10:53

I know lots of Tia's, i don't like it but that's because I don't like the sound not because of any associated terms which tbh have never occurred to me.

jennymount · 29/01/2018 10:54

It's nice. Had never heard of the medical term before a quick google.

lilytup · 29/01/2018 10:55

neither had i, but when i googled Tia it was all that came up so felt a bit unsure

I just read it as Tia, didn't even consider the connection - it's a lovely name

OuchBollocks · 29/01/2018 10:58

One of the twins from Sister Sister was Tia. Showing my age here! Anyway I liked that show and I like the name.

TheVanguardSix · 29/01/2018 10:58

Oh of course it's fine. It's a lovely name. I've met a few Tias and I have never, not once, associated them with the TIAs my mum has suffered over the years. Grin It's lovely, OP. I wouldn't over-think it.
My son's name is Theodor (the German spelling). If you slice it down the middle, his name becomes The Odor!

MikeUniformMike · 29/01/2018 10:58

Thanks in advance?
It makes me think of Tia Sharp so I wouldn't use it.
Mia, Nia are better. Not keen on Lia. Pia is lovely but would get shortened to Pee.

SlowlyShrinking · 29/01/2018 10:59

Thanks in advance
I don’t like it but I think it’s quite a well known name so the medical thing shouldn’t be a problem Smile

seven201 · 29/01/2018 10:59

Didn't notice the medical connection but I did think 'thanks in advance' while I was trying to work out the medical one. Wouldn't put me off.

MikeUniformMike · 29/01/2018 11:13

It's Spanish for aunt. Tia Maria (Aunty Mary) is a brand of liqueur.

dontquotemeondailymail · 29/01/2018 11:13

Ouch Tia & Tamera - loved that show!

I like the name Tia, would never have associated it with a medical term.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 29/01/2018 11:46

Yes. It's pretty.

HouseworkIsASin10 · 29/01/2018 11:52

When I joined MN I thought there were an awful lot of people called TIA.

lilytup · 29/01/2018 12:00

thanks everyone, don't mind about the thanks in advance thing as it's not exactly unpleasant if you see what i mean

MollyHuaCha · 29/01/2018 12:13

I quite like the name.

XxMagpiexX · 29/01/2018 13:54

I'm a nurse so I read it as a TIA 🙈 most normal people wouldn't tho

FannyHertz · 29/01/2018 13:57

If you’re worried why not use Tiana?

macaronip1e · 29/01/2018 13:57

In the medical context it’s an acronym so reads as letters (I.e TeeEyeAy) - so I wouldn’t even think of it if I saw Tia the name

MammieBear · 29/01/2018 14:01

Of course you can use Tia as a name, I have met perents with children called Tia (Merseyside) also there is a footballer with a daughter who has this name.

TinyTear · 29/01/2018 14:04

Tia means aunt in Spanish and Portuguese. I personally don't like it

lilytup · 29/01/2018 14:08

i guess the aunt thing may be another problem Sad

ferrier · 29/01/2018 14:17

I've a friend called Tia and never once thought of any of the suggestions above. She's lovely and I've always envied her lovely name.

CorianderSnell · 29/01/2018 14:20

I like Tia and know a very cute one.

I went to school with a Zea (pronounced like Tia) and always thought that was a great name.

17caterpillars1mouse · 30/01/2018 12:06

I'm not a fan but then the only two Tia's I've known have been Tia Maria and Tia Maria which makes it seem a bit trashy tbh. Wouldn't think of the medical term and I like Mia so I probably would like it if I'd not met the Tia's mentioned above
