Anouk, Sukey or Mina

Appreciate these are marmite names.

Anouk has been my favourite for a while but lack of acceptable nicknames make me unsure.

DH adores Sukey (Sue - key)
I also like Mina (Me - na)

Other suggestions welcome. Can’t have names ending in in/en (eg Erin). Prefer one or two syllable names.

Sukey is terrible. Really awful.
I think Mina is nice. Will probably be confused with Nina, though.
Anouk is also nice, but I prefer Mina.

Pixilicious · 24/01/2018 19:18

Anouk
Mina
Sukey

Yika · 24/01/2018 19:32

I like all of these, they are slightly offbeat but not complicated.

A few other suggestions

Mona
Lia
Carey
Shireen

NotAgainYoda · 24/01/2018 19:39

What about Susannah, with Sukie as a nn?

LemonysSnicket · 24/01/2018 19:44

Suki 100%

I do like Anouk though

SuperBeagle · 24/01/2018 20:09

I don't like any of them, but Anouk is the best of the bunch.

Prefer Nina to Mina, and if Nina was on your list, I would choose that.

Namelesswonder · 24/01/2018 20:13

Suhki is a tradition Indian name. It's not silly, it's not made up and it's not just for dogs.

GetAwayFromHer · 24/01/2018 20:22

Nameless

That's interesting

To be fair, no-one mentioned Suhki

MockneyReject · 24/01/2018 22:59

I saw this thread a couple of hours ago. Since then, I've googled Anouk, as it was putting me in mind of Eskimo. Found out that that is actually Nanouk (meaning polar bear), which put me in mind of Mork with his 'nanu-nanu' Grin

Anyway, I like Anouk much better than Mina.
But now I want twins called Polly and Sukey, who will bring me endless cups o' tea, while I watch reruns of shite 70s sitcoms.

OP, would you consider Mindy?

windchimesabotage · 24/01/2018 23:04

Those are all gorgeous names!! Sukey reminds me of the song 'Sukie in the graveyard' by belle and sebastian.

CuppaTeaTime2 · 24/01/2018 23:12

Anouk is awful. So harsh sounding.

Mina is okay but Sukey is lovely.

FizzyGreenWater · 25/01/2018 17:41

Anouk for sure. It's lovely.

Annie is a very obvious nn and also lovely!

Mupflup · 25/01/2018 17:46

I love Anouk, I like Sukey although not sure about the spelling. Not keen on Mina at all.

helpmum2003 · 25/01/2018 17:55

I'm afraid I'm not mad on any of them.

Anouk sounds harsh. Anoushka that someone suggested is less harsh. Annika?

Sukey sounds like a nn and reminds me of the nursery rhyme.

MinA is a bit bland and will be confused for Nina (which I like.)

All will have spelling issues.

I wouldn't worry about a lack of an obvious nn - kids don't need one and often one emerges that isn't linked to name anyway...

What do you like about these names? Just to help with other suggestions. ........

60sname · 25/01/2018 18:00

Sukey is a nickname, call her Susanna or something so she has options

vitaminC · 25/01/2018 18:08

Anouk is already a nickname - it's a diminutive if Anne - although it's currently popular in its own right here in France these days. I know several and all are lovely and the name has grown on me in recent years.

Mina is the name of my adorable 2yo niece. They are a bilingual family and wanted an international name that would be easy to spell and pronounce anywhere in the world. It's not a name I would have chosen, but, again, it's grown on me.

Sukey is dreadful. I could just about imagine it as a nickname, but honestly the first thing it brings to mind is "pukey"! Sorry.

CommonGrounds · 25/01/2018 18:10

Anouk is like nanook of the north

I agree - years of pukey sukey- children are not kind.

daisypond · 25/01/2018 18:16

Anouk is fine - very French. It's a diminutive but is used in its own right. Anoush? Mina I also like - one of the characters in Dracula is Mina, but I think it's maybe short for Wilhelmina. Sukey is an American slave name to me, so that would be a no. Susanna/h is really nice, though.

MikeUniformMike · 25/01/2018 21:01

How about Anoushka.

Ginandanything · 25/01/2018 21:03

Sukey is vile.

Joeybee · 25/01/2018 22:33

NOT Sukey.....it's just such an annoying name. Only ever met bitches called Sukey. Also it's too cutesy, I can't see anyone really taking a Sukey seriously. Also there's not nickname for it.

lizzieoak · 25/01/2018 22:53

Don’t hold back people, let us know how you really feel about Sukie.

It is a name and our tastes vary. It’s a tad ott to call or vile and annoying. I like it, but can see the potential for teasing so would avoid. Or use as a family nickname for her to use when she’s older. But I prefer Anouk, which I think is lovely.

Inthedeepdarkwinter · 25/01/2018 22:58

Suki is a nicer spelling IMO.

Anouk is a lovely name.

Mina- I don't get why everyone hates it, and loves Nina. I'm not mad on the whole 'ina' thing but they aren't miles apart (except Nina is better known).

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 25/01/2018 22:59

I don't like any of them, but Anouk is the best of the bunch.

Same.

Thea
Nancy
Lara
Hattie (Harriet)
Anna

Lifeofpies · 26/01/2018 08:04

Yes, people don’t hold back, do they?! I know this board can be a bit vicious and I was expecting it (hence marmite comment in my op).
People are generally far kinder when a name is attached to an actual child IRL (outwardly, anyway).

Children usually find a way to turn even the most vanilla of names into horrid nicknames, but yes, probably wise not to make it too easy!
The hardness of Anouk appeals to me, but I can see why others less keen.

Shegot Thea was on my list. Will mention it again to DH.
