We have final few names picked but can't decide. Also throw some names I might like if you can!

Saoirse
Avery
Amelia
Saorla

We are Irish hence the two Irish names

I love Saoirse. Such a beautiful name.

Avery - no, reminds me of an aviary and always strikes me as a male name.

Amelia is v bland nowadays. I teach in Ireland and we are overloaded with Amelias and Amelies.

Saorla is nice, but I prefer Saoirse. Saorla however is definitely a bit more unusual.

DramaAlpaca · 20/01/2018 17:10

I love both the Irish names, especially Saorla which you don't hear much.

Amelia is OK but very popular.

I don't like Avery at all. It makes me think of printer labels & birdcages.

Thistlebelle · 20/01/2018 17:11

Not too keen on Avery but the others are lovely.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 20/01/2018 17:11

Do you live in Ireland? If not, will you be constantly annoyed by mispronunciation?

I know lots of Amelias so I wouldn't choose that. Avery is quite different to the other names.

Having looked up the pronunciation, I like Saorla best :)

bluesu · 20/01/2018 17:15

Not keen on Avery for the bird cage reason.

Saorla is beautiful (is it pronounced Soar-la?)

RavenWings · 20/01/2018 17:20

Saorla is pronounced sehr-la. Sehr rhyming with bear. That's the best explanation I can think of. I think in some regions you might hear seer-la, too.

Lukeandlorelai4Ever · 20/01/2018 17:25

Haha tbh Avery also reminds me of birds 🙈Dd came up with it when she mispronounced savoury so we thought it was nice!

Yes we live in Ireland .

We both love saoirse but becoming very popular over here at the moment.

You're right about Amelia, also becoming popular.

Saorla, but I do like Avery too.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 20/01/2018 18:03

I like Avery.😄

mondler · 20/01/2018 18:49

I like Avery too!

sirlee66 · 20/01/2018 19:01

Saoirse for sure!!! Love that name soooooooooooo much

pilates · 20/01/2018 19:13

I like them all except Avery

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 20/01/2018 19:16

Saoirse is one of my favourite girl names. It was popular in NI when I was growing up too, (think that’s to do with the meaning).

Saorla and Avery are nice too though.

I can’t stand Amelia for some reason. They are everywhere where I live though, so I’m definitely in the minority there I think!

Love Saoirse. Our Irish connections were unfortunately too distant to consider it for DD.

NewYearNiki · 21/01/2018 15:29

Saoirse

Beautiful

MikeUniformMike · 21/01/2018 21:34

Avery is awful, It's a surname and a brand of printer labels and scales

I love Saoirse.

Love Amelia too.

Not a fan of Avery or Saorla.

Joeybee · 21/01/2018 23:19

Saoirse - don't know how this should be pronounced. I'm guessing therefore other people may not know, which means the child will have to say/spell out her name for her whole life, which trust me, is really annoying.

Avery - Feel this is a cute and underused name. Ava is a nice nickname for it too.

Amelia - Too popular now, it's become a bit boring. Amelie is a nice alternative.

Saorla - Sounds like a brand of soft drink or something, not a fan.

RebeccaWrongDaily · 21/01/2018 23:22

Not Amelia or Avery.
I love Saiorse, Caiomhe, Roisin, Clara, Marcella, Ita.

They're Irish living in Ireland...The Irish know how to pronounce Irish names.

Saoirse is not a difficult name to pronounce either once you've heard it. Seer-sha. Has the same vowel combo as Aoife, which seems to get along just fine in the UK.

Lukeandlorelai4Ever · 22/01/2018 08:05

Thanks, we are taking all the comments on board!
I have an unusual name so unfortunately know how annoying it is to keep pronouncing it!
We all know how to pronounce saoirse in Ireland.
I like the name caoimhe too but know a few so that's ruled that name out.
I've gone off the name Avery now with all the mention of labels 😂

Saoirse is the name I like best from your list and the rest are ok apart from Avery as it sounds rather masculine and reminds me a character from American dad!
