Just that really, Stanley and Sidney?

Yes
Is Sidney a boy or girl?

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 19/01/2018 02:14

Don’t give same initial - how will you ever know which post is for who?

stopbeingadramallama · 19/01/2018 02:19

A girl, Rainbow.

HonkyWonkWoman · 19/01/2018 02:24

Not very keen on either to be fair.

For a boy or a girl.

Greensleeves · 19/01/2018 02:27

No, they're not too similar. The post thing is just bizarre Confused

I'm personally not keen on Stanley, but Sidney is cute imo

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 19/01/2018 02:30

What is wrong with you greensjeeves- you are a bit weird following me round the site?!
It’s not buzzare - when the kids are teenagers she’ll be getting post for mr s [surname] and they’ll have no idea who it’s for. She’ll want to label her kids clothes and she’ll have to write out their full name as the initials are the same. She be forever correcting people who didn’t quite hear if it was sid or stan this time.

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 19/01/2018 02:31

I would spell Sydney as a girl and Sidney as a boy?

Greensleeves · 19/01/2018 02:32

What on earth are you raving about Confused

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 19/01/2018 02:33

Post not such an issue if one is mr and one miss to be fair - my assumption was that Sidney was a boy which I think a lot of people will do too

stopbeingadramallama · 19/01/2018 02:35

Thanks for all the comments.

I thought they might have been too similar, that's why I asked.

The post thing wouldn't be much of an issue as it would then be 'miss' and 'mr' but thank you anyway. Probably won't go with this anyway, I just really like both names.

Has anyone got any suggestions to go with Stanley? (we already have a Stanley)

OP posts:
SuperBeagle · 19/01/2018 02:35

I would assume Sidney was a boy, especially when paired with Stanley, because they both have the same "popular in the 1900s, back in fashion now" vibe.

I do think that they are too similar though, as well.

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 19/01/2018 02:35

What other girls names do you like? It is definitely a girl?

stopbeingadramallama · 19/01/2018 02:37

Poppy is nice too, I think. Quite like Lola, I'm just really stuck.

OP posts:
Rainbowsandflowers78 · 19/01/2018 02:39

Poppy is sweet
Penelope with nn poppy?
Vivienne then you get viv which is a bit like sid?
Claris ?
Alanah?
There’s loads of lola, Leila type names which are all nice imo

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 19/01/2018 02:40

Rosa?

duckponds · 19/01/2018 03:44

If you like matching with the same letter how about;

Stanley and Sienna
Stanley and Sammie
Stanley and Stevie
Stanley and Sylvie
Stanley and Scarlett

Sidney should be Sydney imo but we live in Australia so having a Sydney would be a bit weird

MadameJosephine · 19/01/2018 03:59

I think it sounds fine together and both lovely names. Sidney is my DD’s middle name, it’s also her grandad’s name but I actually prefer it for a girl rather than a boy. I also prefer the Sidney spelling rather than Sydney like the city.

As far as the post thing is concerned, my entire family have the same initial and I don’t recall it ever being a problem

mathanxiety · 19/01/2018 05:49

Stanley and June
Stanley and Lara
Stanley and Florence
Stanley and Edith
Stanley and Rosemary

Stanley and Lola sounds a bit too like Charlie and Lola.

Justanotherzombie · 19/01/2018 05:57

Jeez, I also don't see what the problem is with Stanley and Sidney. Quite cute together. No different to Michael and Maisie or James and Jennifer.

I think Sydney/Sidney is a great name for a girl!

If you want a similar name with a completely different etymology, try the (French?) Sidonie.

As you also like Poppy and Lola, how about

Florence, Deirdre, Maura, Michaela, Iris, Violet?

Wallywobbles · 19/01/2018 06:35

Stanislas is the French equivalent

JollyJuniper · 19/01/2018 06:36

I think its cute. Prefer sydney though, to me sidney is the masculine spelling.

Soubriquet · 19/01/2018 06:39

Another who prefers the Sydney spelling

Me, my sister and my Dd all have the same first initial Grin

pilates · 19/01/2018 06:43

Stanley and Pearl
Stanley and Eliza
