My baby boy is due Monday and I literally have no names I like. I have read the entire 3000 long list of boys names given last year and don't like any of them. What am I going to do?
I have loads of girls names I love but nothing for a boy!
I want something normal but not popular.
husband is no help as only suggest 2 names. One I hate and one is ok but rhymes with my daughters name which is massively off putting. (Think Benny and Jenny).
What can I do to solve this problem? Will inspiration strike when he's born? It's stressing me out.

Get your husband to come up with some names if he keeps vetoing things.

At the same time it does really help to see the baby.

Patrick, Francis, Theo, James (Jimmy or Jamie is sweet)

SuperBeagle · 19/01/2018 00:35

Desmond.

Fantastic, underused Irish name.

MagicMoneyTree · 19/01/2018 14:24

Irish names tend to be trendy and so date more quickly.

I disagree. e.g. Patrick. I know a toddler called Patrick, a guy in his mid 30s and someone else in his... well not actually sure but he’s an elderly chap. It works across all ages and definitely hasn’t dated.

Conor, Sean, Daniel, Seamus, Malachy, Niall, Cian, Ciaran, Aidan, Liam, Dylan, Cillian.

MikeUniformMike · 19/01/2018 16:11

I think you'll find that Patrick is a latin-derived name and is also popular in countries like France.
Conor and Liam are dated. They were very popular in the 1990s.

CormoranStrike · 19/01/2018 18:38

I adore the name Patrick.

MagicMoneyTree · 19/01/2018 18:50

Ah come on! It’s at least honorary Irish! You can’t argue with the patron saint!!

Are you in Ireland Mike ? Maybe some of those names sound dated if you’re in Ireland or Irish but not so much if you’re in the UK?

I wouldn’t say any of them were dated in a Gary/Wayne Sharon/Tracey kind of way.

BellMcEnd · 19/01/2018 18:54

Peter? I’ve always liked that name

ClashCityRocker · 19/01/2018 18:57

Roman

Theresomethingaboutdairy · 19/01/2018 19:10

Henry. The only boys name that I love. We had the same problem, I do like Edward and James too, call me boring but so far we haven't come across another Henry in DS year group (he is 11 now).

Standardpubquizname · 19/01/2018 19:43

What girls name do you like and why? How did you come up with your dds name, what do you love about it, is she named after anyone/anything? Perhaps using the same process you used to come up with her name will help with your ds.

MikeUniformMike · 19/01/2018 19:48

I'm not in Ireland. I like Patrick too. Paddy is cute as a nn.

show Connor, Ryan, Liam etc sliding down in the ratings

MagicMoneyTree · 19/01/2018 20:17

Sliding down doesn’t necessarily mean dated though. I think it depends on the rate of the incline/ decline too.

No, but if a name peaked in say 2003, there will be loads of them 15 yrs older. By the time a 2018 baby will be 28 it will be the equivalent of Darren or Wayne now.

RidingWindhorses · 19/01/2018 20:46

Well no because they're classic Irish names.

SpottyBrolly · 19/01/2018 22:41

What about Leonard, shortened to Leo, Len or Lenny.

Lucylululu · 20/01/2018 06:22

I had the same problem until at the last minute I discovered 'R' names and decided like liked all of them! What about Reuben,Rudy,Rufus, Rupert?

Welshlovebicuit · 20/01/2018 06:30

Isambard

coragreta · 20/01/2018 19:16

I really liked paddy/Patrick but it was vetoed very strongly.
Girls names I like are: saoirse, Joely and Meredith. Not sure that it gives hints in boys names.
I heard my daughters name being said in a playground. I'd never thought of it before even though I'd heard it.
Quite a few names suggested are nice but names of relatives.
