Looking for Nordic flavoured girls names, I know double-barrelled first names can be divisive! Thoughts?

6992 people are called Ann-Sofie in my country, 3540 are called Ann-Sofi (without the e), and 0 are called Sofie-Ann.

Sofie-Ann might make people think we’re a bit odd!

There's a chance that things might go in that direction, yes.

Thanks all! Sofiane is lovely actually, makes me imagine a very striking man with a lovely French accent!

It seems a bit split as to whether Ann-Sofie is nice or not, she will probably be shortenend to Annie as that’s my 3 year olds current favourite name (hence looking at variations!) it will stay on the list for further pondering!

I like Ann-Sofie - much prefer it to Sofie-Ann. The incidence in Scandinavia isn't relevant if you live here.

Mutter and von Otter 👍

Saffiyah is also a lovely name but it's Arabic.

I like it. I know a Mauritian Anne-Sophie and think it's a lovely name.

The latter, Sofie-Ann, would be pronounced (in Scandinavia) quite like "the sofa" (^"soffan") so that's something to consider if you're after a Scandinavian connection for some reason. Ann-Sofi or Anne-Sofie or Anna Sofia etc. is very common.

SuperBeagle · 18/01/2018 21:49

It is very Scandi, but I would suggest that it's a slightly dated naming style. DH is Scandi and has a few Ann- names in his family, but they all belong to people over the age of 40.

Sofie as a standalone name is much more "current".

Dixiestampsagain · 18/01/2018 23:58

I love Ann-Sofie- I’ve met a few French people with that name.

wooster16 · 19/01/2018 00:23

I love it, Ann-Sofie just rolls off the tongue and I have a soft spot for Scandi names.

I know an Anna-Sofia and she is lovely. I really like it. And Ann-Sofie
