I’m now liking Charlotte Amelia for a girl’s name... what do you think?

I’m updating my last post with this main choice for a girl - my DH seemed to like it too, but we may change our minds in a few weeks when we’ve had the 20w scan! Wink

It’s fine, but both names are so popular. I have so many friends called Charlotte and know so many with people with little Amelia’s.

dotdotdotmustdash · 13/01/2018 20:29

In medicine amelia means 'lacking one or more limbs'. It does sound pretty though!

NooNooHead · 13/01/2018 21:11

Thanks all for your input. I think having a name that can shortened to Charlie or Lottie is quite good (but I do prefer Charlie to Lottie).

I am someone who does like things that aren’t always conventional but I think I am probably more of an over-cautious person more often than not, and will be playing it safe when it comes to baby names!

Love it, but I love Amelia Charlotte even more. Smile

Greenteandchives · 13/01/2018 22:35

Charlotte Amelie. Capital city of the US Virgin Islands.

NooNooHead · 13/01/2018 23:04

Greenteandchives yes, I only just discovered this today! It wasn’t chosen for this reason!

SuperBeagle that sounds lovely, I agree! I never thought of it that way round...🤔

Beautiful name. Charlotte works well with Amelia. They are both traditional, classic names. Only thing is that they are both VERY popular atm. Personally I'd avoid names in the top 10, as the child will end up being one of three in her class. But if that doesn't bother you, I think it's a fantastic name. Also lots of potential nicknames - Charlie, Lotte, Lettie etc.

NewYearNiki · 14/01/2018 02:48

I dont like Amelia so much

Charlotte Alexandra?

Charlotte is a classic and pretty name.

Everyone saying nothing special ?! Does a name.have to literally blow one away with uniqueness?

Looking down the forum titles now, Nova, Kaia, Farleigh.....shudder.

hanste123 · 14/01/2018 03:35

I think it’s lovely x

Butterpuff · 14/01/2018 04:28

Both pretty names with lots of options for pet names. You can have cute baby Lottie, a rebellious teenage Charlie and a proper grown up professional Charlotte. I've always loved Amelia too, Milly, Leah, Amy if you switched their order. The is a reason that popular names are popular. Especially the ones that are old, traditional and come back time and time again.

ElizaDontlittle · 14/01/2018 04:58

Mercedes519 Lottie causes confusion as no one knows her name is Charlotte!

Um, what? How do people not know this?

It's very classic OP and I think even the popular girls names today don't lead to there being loads in every year group at school. Plus with varied shortened forms you can avoid it. Hope all is well with the scan.

NooNooHead · 14/01/2018 07:57

Butterpuff love your suggestions! Just perfect with the pet names! I didn’t think about the nicknames for Amelia which are great too! Thank you for the suggestions! Flowers We’ll probably have a boy now... ha ha! Wink

Lottie and Lotta are common nns for Charlotte (and Carlotta). I’d be very surprised if this caused confusion.

I don’t like Amelia but Charlotte really is lovely.

spankhurst · 14/01/2018 08:29

Beautiful names.

lifechangesforeverinjuly · 14/01/2018 08:33

It is a lovely name but they're both top 10, meaning there's likely to have many others named Charlotte in her school, maybe even the same class.

I love Charlotte but it's off my shortlist for that reason. If it doesn't bother you though then go for it!

Butterpuff · 14/01/2018 09:16

Your welcome NooNooHead we have two children with popular, classic names that were top 10 when they were born, we only ever get compliments and so far neither has ever met someone of the same age with their names. So much variety even top 10 are not everywhere lime they were when o was growing up......ecen then it didn't stay me that there were three butterpuffs iny small village school. Wink

Mercedes519 · 14/01/2018 09:31

The confusion these days I think is because people often give their kids short names as their names - I know a Beth, Will etc. who aren’t short for something. Lottie has always been Lottie so people assume that’s her given name. Understandable but confusing when someone uses the ‘official’ list!

Mercedes519 · 14/01/2018 09:33

I should add though I think it’s nicer to give the full name and then the child has options as a PP said - different versions in different situations

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 14/01/2018 09:35

Think a lovely, classic name.
Beautiful Flowers and it's a name that will grow with her.
Much prefer to the Unicorn names that are trendy but date so quickly!

Kim82 · 14/01/2018 09:41

I’m not keen on Amelia but I love Charlotte. I have a 3.5 year old Charlotte (so born before the princess) and I haven’t met any other little ones with the name. We get lots of compliments on her name.

guestofclanmackenzie · 14/01/2018 10:55

Love both names 😊

Although I like Amelia slightly better than Charlotte.

allwornout0 · 14/01/2018 11:01

Beautiful names, so classic.
