We finally brought it down to the names Levi or Jett (or Blake).
What springs to mind when you hear these names?
What vibe do you get?
( it would help me as well to know which country/ state you live in !!) Smile
Thank you , Lara

You mention states so I guess you're American?

Another Londoner here & I agree that Jett comes across as very reality-TV-celeb-magazines-fan. But maybe the connotations are different in the US.

Something else to consider is that Levi might get shortened to Lee, which seems a bit dated to me somehow...

There are so many gorgeous (imo) biblical boy names. Reuben, Isaac, Ezra, Elijah etc.

MikeUniformMike · 12/01/2018 17:03

Jet would be a good name for a sheepdog.
Levi makes me think of Levi Roots, whose real name is Keith.
Blake is nice but sounds a bit like Flake.

I'm in the UK.

That helps a lot lot 😊
What do you think of Nico and Avery for a boy. What do you connect with these names ( and where do yo live)
Thank you !!!

I like Avery. Nico is nice as a shortening for Nicholas. I really like Nicholas actually. It travels well and has a few options for shortenings.

I’m in the Home Counties (near London).

villainousbroodmare · 12/01/2018 17:14

I love Avery. It makes me think of Charlotte's Web, a rope swing in a haybarn, tanned dusty bare legs, a capable kid and a nice name translating into adulthood. I like it best of all your choices. I prefer Nick to Nick.

villainousbroodmare · 12/01/2018 17:14

Aaargh... to Nico, damn autocorrect!

MikeUniformMike · 12/01/2018 17:16

Avery sounds like a brand of letter-weighing scales and printed labels. Also, the word Aviary is often mispronounced as Avery so it will conjure up images of a guano covered copy of last week's The Sun.
Nico is a bit too try hard and a bit too unisex. Nick is fine.

I'm in the Home Counties too.

MikeUniformMike · 12/01/2018 17:17

printer labels not printed labels

AuntieStella · 12/01/2018 17:17

I really like Nico.

Avery makes me think Deatheater

This made me laugh out loud. Well that’s that name ruined for me!

Chickoletta · 12/01/2018 17:22

I dislike all three I'm afraid. Levi Bellfield sprang to mind for me too and Blake and Jett are just awful American celeb wannabe names. Sorry. I am very traditional though.

I know it's been said on here many times before but could you imagine a high court judge, a headteacher or a surgeon with any of those names? Not sure I could.

Cinnamoncookie · 12/01/2018 17:32

Jett - Gladiators
Levi - Jeans or Jewish
Blake - 's Seven

Avery - Labels
Nico - posh nickname for Nick

These are my first impressions. I'm in London

FizzyGreenWater · 12/01/2018 17:48

I like Nico, but totally Italian for a boy.

The initial 3, no to any of them sorry. I would like Levi if it weren't for the serial killer ☹️

kittensinmydinner1 · 13/01/2018 07:12

Nico - ok derivative for Nicholas

Jett - future Jeremy Kyle guest.

Aviary- a huge bird cage . Weird name for a child.

Levi Working class Jewish name. I don't mind it for a child who is working class Jewish.. otherwise no.

Deepest darkest Sussex

Jett - chav, Blake - American, Avery - the short one Nashville, Nico - fine, Levi - a bit try hard cool but fine.

TatianaLarina · 13/01/2018 09:19

Bellfield doesn’t define Levi any more than Peter Sutcliffe does Peter.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 13/01/2018 09:45

Tatiana - that's easy to say if you know several other Levis but if the one and only time you have come across the name is Levis Bellfield then I can understand how it might put you off using the name

It's a bit like Myra Hindley - I bet there haven't been many babies Myras in the past 40 years

TheFirstMrsDV · 13/01/2018 09:59

I agree with Pigeon
But how sad it must be to be the sort of person who only carries on liking something if people she considers worthy like it too.

Its much better to have the courage of your own convictions.

thethoughtfox · 13/01/2018 10:13

They sound like Matthew McConaghy's children. Too American in my view.

duckponds · 14/01/2018 10:21

OP- are you American? (You mentioned Country and State- not County)
The names all sound quite American to me, which is course is not a problem if you’re in America!

FizzyGreenWater · 14/01/2018 13:10

It's not at all the same - unfortunately the name Levi is unusual enough for it to absolutely end up 'defining' the name. Unlike Peter, or even Fred (West) or Ian (Brady).

Exactly like Myra.

As I said, I quite like Levi but sadly now the very first thing I would associate it with is him. I know no other Levis, many folk will so won't have that association, but it's not mainstream enough to be immune.

Toodlepip14 · 12/02/2018 23:16

Have you decided against Zayne? You could still use your second sons name, Xavier? Just in case you don't have a second son and you seem to like it
