Help and options on these names

Hi! I am only 15 weeks pregnant but I really like the idea of getting a boy and a girls name sorted, we won’t be finding out so need one of each. We already have a Grace so we are wanting to keep that in mind when naming this little one to be.

Girls: Esme, Raya (I prefer the spelling Raeya but don’t think it’s the correct Hebrew spelling)

Boys: Ezra, Elijah, Isaiah, Jeremiah

I know names are a person choice so if people hate them that’s fine but for those that have similar taste in names can I have some options on the above- also ideas for Nicknames for Isaiah as that’s the one name I cant think of an appropriate nickname.

Thanks in advance (any other name suggestions are appreciated, also our surname goes with most things as long as something isn’t to floral otherwise it sounds like a toilet air freshener)

I like Raya and Elijah from your list.

Mrsknackered · 09/01/2018 20:48

Raya is my favourite girls name ever, and I truly hope I get the opportunity to use it one day!

I love Elijah but really dislike Eli, so for that reason Ezra Smile

SwinginFromTheChandelier · 09/01/2018 21:33

Raya and Elijah!

Taya is unusual and I think you can get away with any spelling.

Raya
Raeya
Raia
Raiya
Raea

Etc etc

Thank you all for your lively responses. My DH is pretty chilled out with the names and it’s kind of what I want he is happy with as long as they aren’t too “weird” according to him. So I just can’t stop thinking of all these names, wizzing round my head.

I like Raya and Elijah.

Esme and Ezra seem to be quite "in" at the moment if that's a consideration, I'm not keen on either as to me they seem to fit in with the quirky trend which I think is going to date badly.

I'm also not keen on Jeremiah but that's solely based on one child I worked with being called Jeremy or taunted with "Maya" at school.

Isaiah again I'm not keen but NN would potentially be Isa?

How about Anya, Eliza, Alyssa, Beth, Francesca, Elena, Cassie, Jessica for a girl and Hayden, Isaac, Evan, Lucas, Elliott, Jacob for a boy?

Raya and Elijah. :)

You might also like: Ari, Eli, Dana, Avi, Noam, Lior, Liora, Yael, Aviva, Talia, Maya, Hava, Hannah, Arik, Elah, Natan/Nathan, Isaac, David, Noa, Sarah, Yaron, Shira, Lia.

Depends how you're pronouncing Isaiah but my friend has one (pronounced Eye-say-uh) and he gets Zay or Zaya as a nickname.

BertrandRussell · 10/01/2018 08:14

Do you specifically want Hebrew names?
Isaac?

Leilaniiii · 10/01/2018 08:18

Are you Jewish OP? Just asking before I go off and do some name research Smile.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 10/01/2018 09:35

Not keen on Raya. I love Esme and Elijah.

FreddieClaryHorshieLion · 10/01/2018 10:25

Raya is really lovely imo.
A friend of mine is named Raya.
Raya is (according to her) usually a form of Rachel or a petform of Raisa.

lgh05 · 10/01/2018 15:14

@Leilaniiii myself and DH are practising Christians, so we want a biblical name so there is a lot of cross over with biblical names and Jewish names due to their Hebrew roots.

Thank you though for everyone’s thoughts. I agree with the Isaiah I like the “zay” pronunciation but I didn’t know whether this was american?

@BertrandRussell I love Issac (possible my favourites boys name) but I can’t have it because of my surname.

If you’re after more / traditionally Christian names you might not like most of the names I suggested. (Although Yael / Jael was one of my favourite religious figures when I was little. She was intelligent, brave...)

My (very British) DH says zie and not ‘zay’. But Idk...

TabbyCat864 · 10/01/2018 16:42

I like Esme the most out of your girls' names.
And Elijah most for your boys' names.

lgh05 · 11/01/2018 19:05

Bump.....

I am really starting to lean towards

Isaiah (NN- Zie, Siah, izie)
Raeya (NN Rae)

We have a Grace already.

Full names would be;

Isaiah David ......
Raeya Millie Thea .....

(Middle names are family links so they aren’t moving- only possibility is girls middle names not being abbreviated as she would be named after a Mildred and Dorothy)

Opinions or other suggestions appreciated

THey are lovely names
I also like Ezekiel (Zeek) for a boy

lgh05 · 11/01/2018 20:08

@grasspigeons aww that’s a nice contender! Thank you

I like Rhea / Rheia, Reya and Raya. But Raeya looks a bit misspelled imo.

Isaiah David is great. :)

lgh05 · 11/01/2018 20:51

@FreddieClaryHorshieLion oh okay interesting thank you for that, I think it’s because I like Rae (ray) for a girl so thought that spelling it would get pronounced correctly. Will definitely have to look into it further x
