Yes ? Or too Harry Pottery ?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
GYMBALL · 06/01/2018 17:11

I wasn't expecting so many replies !
I absolutely love the name and the added bonus is that it's still HP to please my older children who are becoming rather insistent we call the baby Ron or Neville 🙄 but I'm not keen that it will be the first thing people think of when they hear it !

I like HP but I honestly wouldn't make the connection.

I'm actually a bit gutted I didn't clock it for ds2 Grin

I love that the first two objections on this thread we’re from MNers with Harry Potter-ish nicknames!

I do think people will think Dumbledore, I’m afraid.

horatioisabrick · 06/01/2018 19:31

If I had to use a HP name I’d call my child Ernie, Minerva, Dora (not Nymphadora), Pomona, Olympe, Blaise (for a boy, definitely not a girl), Rowena, Mafalda, Cedric, Fabian or Cormac. And use Abraxas as a middle name 😉

Albus is nice but very Dumbledore-ish ;)

tirednotsoyummuy · 06/01/2018 19:34

I LOVE it (I live in quite an artsy place though and kids all have out there names!)

bruffin · 06/01/2018 19:36

If i went for a HP name it would be Sirius

QueQueQue · 06/01/2018 19:39

Albus is lovely! But Alby / Albie are v v popular names near me. Very much the new Archie/Alfie

horatioisabrick · 06/01/2018 20:13

Or maybe Orion...? Idk.

SuperBeagle · 06/01/2018 20:33

Don't like it, and it is very HP.

Aldous?

Glumglowworm · 06/01/2018 21:31

Middle name Severus? Wink

fuzzywuzzy · 06/01/2018 21:32

I reckon my dd will name her firstborn Albus 😂

Chewbecca · 06/01/2018 21:33

Dumbledore

buttercup54321 · 06/01/2018 21:42

Awful.

QueenOfCatan · 06/01/2018 21:45

Dumbledore. I love it. But then DD was nearly Minerva (and it's still on the list for next time)!

Subla2401 · 06/01/2018 21:58

Also a big Harry Potter fan and named my dog Albus. The main reactions are either: 'like Albus Dumbledore?' Or 'Where did you get that name from?'

But I love it and it's a reasonably subtle reference to HP in my opinion, as Albus is more commonly known as Dumbledore in the books/films.

Only other thing I would say is people often mis-hear the name as either Elvis or Albert.

As previous posters have said, Albus also gives the cute nickname Albie!

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 06/01/2018 21:58

I love it and thought I was a genius when I thought of it for dc2... but it turns out she's a girl! Use it!

Unnoticed · 06/01/2018 22:04

I thought you were naming your child Gymball - just spent the last few minutes trying to work out the relevant to HP. No idea how I managed to miss the name - Think I need an early night!

For the record I quite like Albus.

DunedinGirl · 06/01/2018 22:23

Albus is cool but I don't think I could manage Albie. It just reminds me of the Flight of the Conchords song.

babigailwabble · 06/01/2018 22:30

Albie etc is soooo overused at the moment. all the little grandad names have been chavved. Albus too close for comfort.

Beansonapost · 06/01/2018 22:31

I love it!

I wanted a HP name but it got vetoed for the first and it's now one of his middle names.

Although when he was born I knew instantly the name I liked suited him! I'm the only who calls him that Smile. I sometimes contemplate changing his name

littlebillie · 07/01/2018 09:15

Alba
