Do you like the name Gytha? Would you use it?
It is a diminutive of Gudridr which is a combination of

‘god’ and ‘beautiful’.

These all mean ‘beautiful’ too:

Abigail: A father’s joy, beautiful.
Bella: Beautiful
Belinda: Pretty one, very beautiful
Bonita: Pretty
Donatella: A beautiful gift
Ella: Beautiful fairy
Ellen: Most beautiful woman
Ellie: Shining light, or the most beautiful woman
Fayre: Beautiful
Iowa: Beautiful land
Isa: Beautiful
Jacintha: Beautiful
Kaytlyn: Smart, beautiful young child
Keva: Beautiful child
Lillie: Purity, beauty
Linda: Pretty
Lynne: Beautiful waterfall
Lucinda: Beautiful light
Mabel: My beautiful one
Meadow: Beautiful field
Orabelle: Beautiful seacoast
Rachel: Beautiful
Rosaleen: Beautiful, little rose
Tazanna: Beautiful princess
Yedda: Beautiful voice

These names are more spiritual:

Aisha: Lively
Angela: Angel
Angelique: Like an angel
Assisi: Italian place-name
Batya: Daughter of God
Celestia: Heavenly
Chava: Life
Chinmayi: Spiritual joy
Grace: Goodness, generosity
Gwyneth: Blessed
Helena: Light
Khadija: Early Baby
Lourdes: Reference to Mother Mary
Magdalena: Gift of God
Seraphina: Fiery-winged

Maybe narrow down your search in one of a few ways

pick a meaning you want - you can then search for names meaning 'loved' or 'stong' or whatever meaning it is you like.
pick from a historical character your admire.

pick a literary heroine
pick a theme like Shakespeare or nature

There's just too many names so limit the type you are looking at.

@Ilovecamping that's such good advice and I absolutely love Indiana, it's brilliant. Also Robyn is one of my favourite names and has been for years, and Lucy will be my daughters middle name for sure (Lucy-Louise after two fabulous women in my life) Smile

thingymaboob · 06/01/2018 12:25

Indiana is the name of my best friends son, who is 3.
There are some lovely names there.
So is Gytha really awful? I guess I've normalised it as grown up with someone of that name.

Eve Gytha would be lovely

Ada
Faye
Eloise
Joanna

I don't think your names on your list are the least bit girlie. None of them are cutesy or overly frilly. They're classic girls' names and many of them are quite "strong" names. But if none of them are jumping out at you, maybe a rethink is needed. I would say some, not all, of your names are quite Victorian/Edwardian, and I suspect names like these will be sounding dated again soon. I think names like Marion, Jane and Marjorie are due a comeback - all classic names too.

ruralmother · 06/01/2018 14:31

Hi,
I feel your pain. We have an Ottilie but stuck for number 2. What about Floris or Allegra?

GreyMorning · 06/01/2018 14:36

I love Ottilie and Lyra.

thingymaboob · 06/01/2018 15:44

I like Jane but it rhymes with our surname! Ottilie is quite nice. Maybe I need to look at Edwardian / Victorian names.

Larissa, Carmen, Joanna, Kathryn, Caroline, Emmeline, Bridget.

AnyaMoondial · 06/01/2018 21:48

How about Janice? Or Jean. Actually I think I love Jean. It's very cool.

DharmaInitiativeLady · 06/01/2018 21:48

Anna! Such a beautiful classic name. I get a lot of (nice) comments on my DD2s name.

tigerrun · 06/01/2018 21:51

If you kind of like Lyra then what about Lana, Luella, Lila, Luca, or Lara (big fan of the L names here!!).

bettyboo90 · 06/01/2018 22:57

I like Maya!

ladystarkers · 06/01/2018 23:02

Gytha is fabulous and you have a great reason to use it.

Lemonadesea · 06/01/2018 23:04

Gytha is fabulous.

Potteryprincess30 · 07/01/2018 12:54

@Footle agree! It's pretty perfect as it has meaning and is unusual but a traditional classic. Love it too, knew going off grid so to speak was a good idea Smile

Jasmine is so pretty
