Some early name thoughts

Quite early to be thinking too much about this really :) I’m 11 weeks with DC2. I’ve barely been thinking of the end result (a baby!) yet at all with Christmas with DS (he’s 3) and as I’m planning to ask what sex the baby is at 20 week scan there’s no point planning 50% of names really! However... I’m starting to think of all the girl names I don’t get to think of last time, and why not throw some out there for opinions?! So far I’m fond of

Clara
Alice
Lucy
Clarissa
Serena
And I really like the simplicity of Jane, you don’t get it much these days either!

I have no boys names yet 😂

I love Clara, lucy and Alice, I'm biased as I have a lucy Frances x

Petalflowers · 02/01/2018 17:46

Not keen on Alice, but I like the other names.

Similar names-
Freya
Emily
Emma

PeasAndHarmony · 02/01/2018 17:47

Love Clara.

Also love Cora and coralie.

AnyaMoondial · 02/01/2018 17:47

Jane is brilliant, it's clean and short and strong.

I like Lucy a lot too.

Buglife · 02/01/2018 17:49

Emily has always been a favourite of mine. It’s a solid classic too. My sons name is very classic, biblical in fact but also not terribly common (barely in top 100) and I’d like something similar for DC2, a name people recognise, sounds nice but isn’t one you hear every day.

Jame is brilliant isn’t it? It’s so plain but it has got a kind of... pure simplicity to it. Also I adore Jane Austen and would love to give her name. DH isn’t so keen on it though. He is actually coming out with far more fanciful ones than I am, although I like his suggestion of Josephine. Problem with that is she’d be Joey or Jo in a week and that would be it. I think my general preference is Lucy because it just has a lovely sound to it.

I love Clarissa but I’m a bit biased (it’s the name of DD1).

Serena and Alice are lovely. Clara is nice but it seems to be rather popular (there are two girls named Clara at DD1’s nursery)....

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 02/01/2018 18:07

Emma^^ is a nice suggestion seeing as you’re a Jane Austen fan!

Or how about Emmeline, shortened to Emma / Emmy? That’s what my dd would have been if I could have convinced dh to agree!

Also (Jane Austen theme);

Charlotte
Mary (due a come back)?
Harriet
Eleanor / Elinor

I really like Clara and Alice too.

horatioisabrick · 02/01/2018 18:08

Jane is lovely. It’s cute, simple, not too popular... :) I’d pair it with a longer, slightly frilly middle name.

Boy name suggestions: Nathaniel, Jonathan, Samuel, Louis, Alexander, Gregor, Cormac, Anthony, David, Magnus, Hector, Jonas, Henry, Thomas, Elijah, Sebastian, Lucian, James, Frederick, Alfred, Reuben, Peter, Linus, Julian, Julius, Rupert, Thorfinn, Matthew/Matthias, Arlo, Ludo, Elijah/Elias, Joseph.

AnaWinter · 02/01/2018 18:09

Love Clarissa

Capelin · 02/01/2018 18:10

I like all the names on your list. Clara is my favourite.

Buglife · 02/01/2018 18:34

horatio you’ve got my sons name at number 1 on your boys list there! So you are on my wavelength!

Emma is a lovely classic but I know so many personally. Not a reason against it really but it doesn’t call to me. Charlotte is nice and a family name. Clarissa is the name of a close deceased relative, love it for that and it sounds so nice.

Bring back Jane! I reckon it’s going to have a minor resurgence after Eleven in Stranger Things turned out to be Jane (made my year, that did).

Mrsknackered · 02/01/2018 18:44

Clara - love it.
Alice - love it
Lucy - think its a bit bland
Clarissa - a bit OTT and princessy for me
Serena - I think it's elegant and ages well. Not a favourite though.

Other suggestions (if you want them!)

Sabine
Connie
Ishbel
Eve
Nina

Buglife · 02/01/2018 18:45

That’s why I’m really thinking of Jane, I think that it’s so rare now it sounds almost exotic 😂 although just my luck I’ll do it and suddenly in 4 years there will be a nursery class full of Jane’s!

OP posts:
Angstyfish123 · 02/01/2018 18:46

Whatever happened to Baby Jane?

Buglife · 02/01/2018 18:47

Mrs Nina is a nice name, also that reminds me that I’ve always liked Mina (like Mina Harker in Dracula!) as well! Sabine... that’s just lovely.

We have Clara and Alice on our shortlist, other names on our lists were:

Rose
Harriet
Blythe

And...

Sebastian
Hector
Henry

Buglife · 02/01/2018 18:59

My DH likes Rose. We have a surname beginning with Red..... so I’m torn between thinking a name that goes with that is awesome or a bit ridiculous! See also Ruby and Robin... both lovely but with the Red after it gets a bit comic book?

OP posts:
squoosh · 02/01/2018 19:01

I think Rose Redmond would be a great name!

daisypond · 02/01/2018 19:03

I like all your names, but I think you're spot-on with Jane. It seems very fresh. I think the tide is turning and Victorian/Edwardian names like Clara and Alice will seem dated again.. Names like Jane, Barbara, Marion are the way to go and you'll be ahead of the curve.

Buglife · 02/01/2018 19:15

I like Marion. Although it makes me think of Maria, and I like that more. I like it said as “Mah-rye-ah” though. So would probably have to spell it Mariah.

Mrsknackered · 02/01/2018 19:42

My friend is a Miina, short for Yasmiina (she is from Finland) so perhaps you could have a Yasmin or Jasmine and Mina for short, if you weren't a fan of it on its own or Yasmiina (or a Wilhelmina! Blush)

Sabine is lovely isn't it. It's on my imaginary/future baby list.

Buglife · 02/01/2018 20:10

A discussion with DH has added Cecilia or Cecily. And Hope. He likes some of the Puritan style names that are virtues! Faith, Hope and Charity etc etc.

OP posts:
horatioisabrick · 02/01/2018 22:05

We apparently really are on the same wavelength in regards to baby names... Grin

DD1 is Clarissa, Nathaniel and Cecilia are at the very top of our list for DC3... Oh, and both DDs have a second middle name (which happens to be a virtue name).
